Da Bear

Have you tried pal super Mario 1 on your ntsc nes? Great fun :D

PAL french NES moded to RGB and works flawlessly.

The tricky part is the AV box, it converts composite to RGB. First it removes the video signal and keep only the sync. I must take video signal before it's sent to the AV box. Second, there is some component who generate some EM interference and is resulting in a distorted and unstable image. This is the case of RGB amp part in AV box, after the Sony v7021 chip. I remove the transitors and... tadaa clear bright RGB image... but with some jail bars. No problem I take the ground for the RGB amp from VEE pin on PPU.

Finaly I keep AV box powered to allow blanking signal works on scart TV.

Now you can have a french NES who switch automaticaly your TV in AV and deliver a true RGB image.

Job done ;)

You should really consider using some free photo-webspace service (Picasa, imgur,...)
Have you also changed the PPU for the RGB one from playchoice?
If not, I would be interested in details of the transistor removal for the clear image....

Yes, but all my ressources on this server will be available forever. I don't know if the photo webspace services can offer the same thing...  ::) By the way, sorry low bandwith. I have some p2p sofware who eating it.  :'(

These transistors can be easily found after R, G and B out pins from V7021 chip. It's the same structure than a classic RGB amp but with CMS components. There are 3 transistor, 3 resistors and 3 capacitors. I don't know if they amplify or reduce the signal. But when I try to use them with RGB PPU I have black screen with sync and sound.

I'm actually suprised, but I think the no mod looks better than the RGB mod in this case.

That's just me, but the RGB mod looks like an emulator in terms of how it displays those pixels and the colours are washed out :(

Yeah, I noticed that too. Actually in some game original video signal feel more "natural" than RGB. Look at these pics :

Original composite :skyscrapers seem futuristics

RGB : skyscrapers smell good eighties soaps  :-[

I think, games developers built graphics using "retail" hardware, not arcade. Some game is better in RGB, however others feel like an emu, as you said.

Posting the Sony V7021 PAL/NTSC schematics just for reference if anybody's searching for it:
