Just played Rampart....differences are crazy. (Also SMB3 stuff)

So I just got done playing Rampart (famicom) and it is way different from the NES version.  I think that this type of thing is neat to see.  I don't really know if it was like the evolution of the game from one region to another or not.  Correct me if I am wrong but I think I remember reading that the Japanese version was more like the arcade?  Either way its cool, stuff like this has been really driving my interest in the Famicom stuff as of late.  Like just the subtle differences in SMB3 is enough of a change that it has made me better at it, being that for 20 years I played the easier American version, and didn't realize how much I was dependent on the suit Mario>super Mario>small Mario transition.  That little difference is enough to call it an easy mode for the game.

Rampart is one of the biggest differences between US/Japanese version games for the Famicom, it was even made by Konami in Japan and the US version was a sort of Atari/Tengen version.  The Famicom version is way superior in my opinion, more colorful graphics and smoother gameplay, really a must-have.

I still remember when I picked up my copies of tmnt 2 and tmnt 3 for the famicom.  I was expecting the games to be completely like the NES versions just with japanese text.....WRONG.  Tmnt 2 suddenly the jump kick kills a lot of foot soldiers in one hit.  Tmnt 3 has an entire options menu added that lets you actually change the game difficulty, it even has a sound test mode added so you can listen to the awesome tmnt 3 music.  Also you could now change how many lives you get with each continue in tmnt 3.

Also I always felt that "normal mode" in megaman 2 just didn't feel right so I never played on that difficulty even when I was 9.....turns out I was right that mode doesn't even exist in the original japanese version of the game.

Now isn't our (North American) TMNT2(USA)=TMNT(JAPAN) and TMNT3(USA)=TMNT2(JAPAN) and our TMNT1 = a japanese title name or something?
Interesting enough I may pick those up as they were favorites as a kid...As far as MegaMan 2 goes  I get what you are saying about the easy mode.  After playing Megaman 1 I thought that the easy was a frickin' joke.  I didn't know that MegaMan 2 was only the Difficult setting in the japanese till a lot later.  I really like Megaman/rockman games but they kicked my ass as a kid and once in a while still to this day.  I actually think that Megaman 5 was the hardest for me.  I have never played any of the rockman games.  As I don't have any of them...I do have all six of the american versions.  Are there any real differences other than the title being the correct title as ROCKMAN?

Right well I said them in american numbers because if I said tmnt and tmnt 2 for famicom that would probably be even more confusing.  I usually say the higher number for example I always say "final fantasy 4" and "final fantasy 6" because there's no way you could get those confused with something else.

Megaman 2 I found difficult as a kid but that's only because I played it on difficult, never used energy tanks, and refused to use the quick boomerang weapon at any time making the game pointlessly difficult.  Somehow I managed to clear the game even with my retarded set of rules which made it 10x harder than it needed to be.

Ironically enough Megaman 2 is the only NES version of a rockman game that I've played.  I have rockman 3 and 5 but I never played the NES versions.  I didn't play any nes megaman games after #2 because by the time the other ones came out my nes ZIF system had died, I had sold the nes out of frustration and bought myself a nice top loading snes.

I suppose I could play all this stuff on my powerpak or an emulator to find out but bleh....  Really though I didn't find rockman 5 all that hard you just have to be patient with it.  According to my good friend satoshimatrix I even beat rockman 5 the hard way which didn't really feel all that hard.  I beat wily in the first or second attempt it was really easy to learn his AI.  Satoshimatrix would be a much better person to answer your question he's like a rockman / megaman dictionary
