What's the best way to clean a pin connector on an AV Famicom?

My AV famicom is giving me a little trouble playing games. Often I'll have to try a few times before a game will properly start. The games I am trying are all cleaned so that isn't the issue. I think the issue is that the pin connector may be a little dirty. What's the best way to clean it? My understanding is that the AV famicoms have the pin connectors soldered in. Should I just use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and open the dust tray and clean the connector?

Grab a credit card or similar, tightly wrap some thin white cloth around it (an old t-shirt works well), lightly dip in isopropyl then insert/remove a few times. When the cloth blackens pull it over to a clean spot and rinse/repeat until the cloth comes out clean.
