So I'm considering trying to build up a collection of FDS games, as complete as possible. Would this be feasible, are there any pitfalls or any grails to be on the lookout for?

Are you including unlicensed disks?  There are some unlicensed disks that you would have a heck of a time with like some of the super pig titles

Pitfalls in general in my opinion are that they are pretty easy to fake pretty convincingly.

Good topic.  I just got a twin Famicom myself, and hope to boost up my own collection as well, so it is always good to hear what others have to say :)

The FDS library isn't that big compared to many other systems so it might be a reasonable goal. Some of the holy grails here http://famicomworld.com/workshop/articles/the-holy-grails/ are unique FDS titles, and there's also KiKi KaiKai: Dotou Hen that comes with the seven Japanese gods of fortune figures which is a bit rare CIB.

I think I'll stick to licensed and commercially released titles, at least to begin with. Stuff like All Night Nippon SMB would be nice, but that would be a whole project in and of itself :)

I can't believe how lucky I got on some titles I found complete, but it's not easy to find good deals on some of the disks.

My prized game is Doki Doki Panic.  The copy I have is so effin clean that the booklet smells like it was just newly opened.  The game also has no saves which if I'm not mistaken is impossible to erase a save.  The seller ended up regretting the sale.

One day a usb link needs to be invented so that we can use up to date PCs to burn games onto the disks as I'm afraid they'll deteriorate with time.  So far so good though as mine all work.  Personally I completely endorse using emulators and roms to preserve the disks and the system on this.  Play it once to see if it works, then store away and use an emulator.

The game doesn't give you an option of deleting the saves, but you can use corruption to erase them:

Interesting.  I still hope though that the one I bought was just opened and put away.  It really is that clean too.  Either way I'm keeping it save free.

I keep a very old computer around, just for these kinds of purposes.

AFAIK is was also a bunch of porn games released on FDS  :-[
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

Yes, the amount of porn games for that thing is endless, unfortunately...well unfortunately for me since I am trying to get them all!

Yeah, as someone with quite a few disks on hand now, one of the biggest pitfalls is simply buying games. In my experience, often the label of the disk simply doesn't reflect the contents. Luckily, I invested in a cable from Tototek, which with the addition of a clunky DOS computer with a parallel port, and a little bit of 'creative rewiring' of my Disk System's motherboard, and some software, gave me the ability to write and rewrite disks myself. It took a LOT of pain out of the collection process. Particularly helping a friend who bought a copy of 'metroid' online, only to find that when he booted it, he had paid for a very expensive copy of Kid Icarus.... :-[

Did an inventory, and discovered I own 24 different games so far (on 23 disks, my SMB2 is on the B-side of a Baseball disk, so I'll have to get a "real" one of those), 10 with the small cases, and one with the manual. None with the big case yet (is there a term for these?). Plus a few duplicates and pirate disks, but I don't count those.

Not a shabby start!
