Is there a such copy of mother for the famicom in english? pirate or not i just really want one, if you know where to get ahold of one it would be gladly appreciated if you let me know thanks.

Only a reproduction. Some people, like Leon over at nesreproductions.com, do offer repro services fro Famicom games. What you'd have to do is buy a japanese copy of Mother, then mail it to Leon for him to put the translation onto the cart.

I think there may be an fan-translated ROM of Mother out there available for reproduction carts; I think the NES Dump has offered them. There's certainly the prototype ROM for Earthbound Zero's aborted US release plans, which was somewhat modified and improved from the original Japanese game. (That was obviously professionally translated into English.)

I never heard of a fan translation. The prototype is the only one there is AFAIK, and it's the one people make repros of. There are three versions of the prototype ROM:

1. The first clean dump. Didn't boot in emulators at the time it was dumped.

2. A single byte hack of the ROM that makes it boot in emulators. But this also triggered an anti-piracy thing that shows a message at the live house or at the XX grave near the end of the game and refuses to let you continue playing. This is pretty cruel because both places are pretty far into the game.

3. A fix for the piracy thing and everything worked.

There's also some hacks like the added "Zero" at the title screen.

Mother is TKROM so it should be possible to do it with Infiniteneslives' INL-ROM repro boards, but they are currently only available in 72 pin variants sadly. I bugged him about making a 60 pin version and he said that he wants to but it will be a while before that happens.

Of course using a repro board like this will require some skill.

Alright so here's a idea, if I buy a mother news reproduction and use a nes to Famicom converter will that work?

If you really want to play it on a Famicom, you might as well just buy a FC Mother cart and get this guy to replace the ROM chip with an English translation (though it may actually be the US prototype version of Earthbound [Zero]):

That would be much easier anyway.

I see no reason why it wouldn't, except for the copy protection. If the game isn't done the same way as the original cartridge the copy protection might kick in. Plus you should use the clean ROM.

The copy protection works in 3 layers:
First the one that doesn't let you boot.
Second if you hack the first one, it will lock up in the live house half through the game.
Third if you hacked that too it will lock up at the XX-tombstone near the end of the game.

So there might actually be 4 ROMs in total.

buy from nesreproductions.com.

Leon uses the clean scrubbed rom without anti-piracy protection.

So again what you do is:

1. Buy a copy of MOTHER for Famicom.
2. Ship that copy to Leon at your own expense
3. Pay $25 which includes return shipping for him to install the English version of the game on the original Famicom cart.
4. ??????
5. Profit.

P

You mean with the protection intact. If it's a clean dump that is.

mickey1332

Hmm I'll probably think of doing that is that's the best choice you guys suggest ;D

Raverrevolution

Even though it isn't too cheap, for another choice you could also buy an Everdrive N8.  Then instead of just the English version of Mother you could have every other game on there English translated as well.  Also any prototype game too.

I don't know about you, but I went on to that guy's website and I wanted all the games listed.  That's why I suggested the Everdrive.

mickey1332

Is that like. a r4 for a nes? That sounds awesome where can I get one of those?

Raverrevolution

Here's Krikzz's site for the N8;

and his shop where you can order from;

Yeah, basically it is like an R4 now that I think about it.  It is a better technical achievement though because it's purely cartridge based.

I'll be playing Mother 1 on GBA - Mother 2 on SFC, and Mother 3 on GBA (on SFC) :D

大事なのは、オチに至るまでの積み重ねなのです。

Oh of course the Everdrive is the number one easiest solution! Just drag and drop the ROM to an SD card and play it!

LET how do you play Mother 3 on a Super Famicom?
