I'm sure this isnt much news to anyone, but the Monster Party beta is a really sought after beta and it's driving me up the wall that the guy who bought it didnt dump it.

However I found this link but idk what it even says.

If anyone could help, please let me know!
hi

P

He borrowed it from a friend to dump it but he isn't successful. WinHongKongFC didn't work at all no matter how many times he tried, and NesReader only produced a buggy ROM (see the picture).

Holy Grail, even if it is a terribly hard game :-P  :redcart:

That is a damn shame. Hopefully they can get it to work in the future. :(
hi

Pennywise

I'd also like to play this game on an emulator, hopefully these guys successfully get it working.

Seems our friend is talking about the other Monster Party beta that got put up for auction. All the while i'm not sure if he got a rom dump of it working or not.
From the looks of it it's a mockup, but I could be wrong. Golly, I sure would kill to be able to read Japanese.

You got it right. He says that picture of the game running in a Playstation emulator might be a mockup. I get the impression that he is as into this as you are, he really wants that proto in the auction, and wonders how it will end up since the one he had was only borrowed.

I wonder if it's dumpable with the Kazzo programmer/dumper.

What is it with this game, is it that good?  Surely if it was it wouldn't have been canned.  I find it interesting how people go so nuts over these, but hope the game can be released somehow when the dust settles.

It's like Strider Hiryuu, it's a Japanese-made game that was only released in America but then a Japanese prototype surfaced. Here's an article about the auction http://1morecastle.com/2014/02/parody-world-monster-party-hits-ebay/.

I know that, but in the case of Strider Hiryu, it's not exactly a good game, so the excitement around it is somewhat perplexing.  I guess people just want the original game in its purest form and will pay a premium for that.

Objection!

I think the interest in Monster Party is driven by two things.  First, the NES Monster Party is one of the most grotesque games released on the console.  We just didn't see gross stuff like that on the NES very often.  So, even the fairly common NES version is interesting (and, it could be argued, has a cult following).  Second, with the small amount of info known about the FC prototype, there are still known differences.  It seems that a lot of people take in interest in seeing what gets cut from a FC game when it gets an NES release.

So, interesting game in general and known FC/NES differences.  I think that's what's driving it, mostly.

Although, maybe somebody with money to burn is unhappy with the owner of the other prototype, and wants to get it dumped just to devalue it ;D

P

I understand the attraction to prototypes. Though I'm more interested in the Strider Hiryuu proto since I've played the NES version long ago, but I'd like to see this proto dumped as well. For Japanese people both of these protos are probably even more interesting since they have Japanese text.

Um. Well. No.  :-[ It's not a very good game at all. It's just the fact that it's one of those oddballs for the NES. It was a game that had a ton of blood and weird crap in it you'd wonder how they got it past NoA. But they did and it's got quite the infamy because of it.

Another thing as UglyJoe pointed out is that the game has some documented differences. From the Little Shop of Horrors boss actually looking like Audrey and having a microphone and speaker to the Planet of the Apes boss. I just wanna see how many more movie monsters there are in the game!

Last thing is I sorta had the game as a kid and it's one of those games I was stuck with and learned to like. It's a pretty mediocre game with that said, but I love it for all the reasons stated. From it's dumb story, it's straight up weird bosses and all the uncensored mystery around it.
