what is the deal with this thing? I can find a boatload of zappers on ebay, enough to pay for the feeding of every nigerian for the next 10 billion years, but there's never too many on yhj and if they are there they're either in shitty condition or brand new and at a rediculous price. whats the deal with this thing.

I think its because the Zapper came with the NES (thus why so many people had it) while the Famicom Lightgun was sold sepertely. But it does seem odd that you aint never see non-pirate Famicom lightguns on ebay or anywhere else for less than $80 USD or something rediculous like that.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but does anyone know if there were any Famicom-exclusive Zapper games that didn't come out for the NES (that are worth looking into?) I bought To the Earth for the NES hearing it was a zapper game and man does it suck! Not because its a bad game, but because the game would require rapid fire, something the zapper can't do.

kite200

nope, it has the same games as the us i think

There was one unlicensed light gun game only for Famicom: HERE. I don't know of others, but I didn't take the time to search the games lists.

MY theory has always been that it's not necessarily "rare", but the whole thing about how it looks like a REAL gun scares/scared away potential buyers back in the 80's, Japanese or not. Another factor is the fact that a lot of the guns don't seem to work after a while, like the trigger on mine is jammed (And it's pretty new...), which is the problem others have reported to me. There's also the thing that American buyers are more likely to buy Famicom accessories than the Japanese buyers/collectors are.

Basically, to ask such a question, you're going to get A LOT of theories and answers...this is a very tough question...

Semi OT question: how rare is the holster (HVC-006 = Zapper Light Gun Holster)?

kite200

only comes in the wild gunman set so pretty rare

And more often you'll see the ligh gun for sale by itself, but hardly ever (even never) do you see the holster for sale by itself. The holster was more expendable, so fewer made it through the 80s.

I have a doubt about a game for the Light Gun, when I buy my first famicom in the 80's (well my dad does) it comes with some games, one of them was a game for the Gun who is in a jungle and you must hit some animals. Some knows that game?

Hmm.......it's not Operation Wolf you're thinking of is it?

nope, was more Arcaic (XD) like Wild Gunman style. Was very simple.

Sounds like Safari Hunt to me, but that was a Master System game.

I know Gotcha! takes place in a forest, but you aren't shooting animals in that.

I had Safari Hunt original for Master System and not. Was kinda weird this game, pretty simple and crappy. I don't know more details. Actually this game come in a 300-in-1 cart too. I must check my carts, but I don't have it, at least in my last inventory.

The only light gun games I ever found for the Famicom were Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt, and Wild Gunman so that would make the NES the winner of that contest.  I think that Satoshi is right about it being more rare since it wasn't ever included as a pack in.  Just like the Zapper CIB in it's own separate box is much more rare.  The gun must not have had the popularity it did in US since you had to buy it separately, and therefore not as many games were produced (none by third parties).
Also, the holster was available for purchase by itself but I've only seen it boxed one time.  I sold a couple loose holsters a while back and they went for around $30 each or so.
