I'd like to pick up some two-player (simultaneous) games to play with my wife.  Games like Donkey Kong and Mario Bros controls were a bit stiff for her.  She *loved* Contra, though.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We have a nice thread just on that, but it always gets buried:

I think good two player games really do need good controls - but try a few of those out and see.

I play Dr. Mario with my lady quite a lot, which always results in tense games but I've had to try others because she's just got way too good at it for me to compete now.

I finally tried Ninja Crusaders two player yesterday and it was fun, LOL. Easier than one player because the guy who dies respawns right back. And one can transform to an animal and the other one can ride on him. And the game has unlimited continues. Maybe this is how Ninja Crusaders is to be played.

Ninja Crusaders is definitely a less frustrating experience with two players. I've beaten it solo and with a buddy, and the latter only took us about an hour. (And he'd never played the game before.) We really got rolling when I had the sword (best damage, but poor range) and he had the throwing stars (great range, crap damage). It's still a tough game, though. I don't think I'd recommend it to casual players.

We had lots of similar threads with good suggestions.

I second Dr. Mario, my wife and I play that all the time.

Tetris Flash is also a good one, as are Son Son and Battle City.  Ice Climber is fun but kind of has the same sluggish control problems of Mario Bros.

Gonna add Ninja Crusaders to this - and is Chip N Dale 2 Player as well?

Chip N Dale is not only two player, it's fun!

You can carry and throw one another.  It's a blast.

Both Chip n Dale games are great simultaneous two player games. Had a blast with the first game with my brother as a kid and it's still fun.

Edit: Oh I was ninjad

How about shmups like Twinbee or Salamander? Or that game that was called S.C.A.T. or Final Mission in Japan.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! What's called TMNT2: The Arcade Game in North America is actually just TMNT on the Famicom, but is an amazing two player beat em up with solid controls. Worth checking out.
