I bought too many of these http://shop.retrogate.com/Famicom-To-NES-adapter-FTNES.htm
Thinking you could use them to play famicom on a NES. But they don't fit a famicom cart and you need a NES cart as shell unless you want to risk breaking the adapter.
Any suggestions what I could do now?

Hmm I guess you could use them in a toploader NES. Can't you tie a ribbon through the holes so that you can pull it out of the NES again. Kind of like how Honey Bee adapters are set up.

i see what you mean. the cart won't physically fit over the cartridge adapter right? i would break out a set of pliers or a dremel and trim the pcb board so it fits over the cartridge slot. then i would ask for a refund

fredJ

Yes, I removed them so now a cart fits.
But it is meant for permanent attachment inside a NES cart.
Trying to put in and out of a NES, one of them got damaged (the chip fell out).

Also it is very stiff to put in a Famicom cart....

I don't know if he will accept a refund really (from the Ukraine) but I have asked.
Will try to do a shell from a NES cart and see if it will give more stability.

I think it is a great adapter as long as it is permanent inside a NES cart with a permanent famicom PCB to it. But not that great as a honeybee replacement, clearly!  :P

The CIC clone fell out?? You should get a refund for that adapter at least, if it was that poorly assembled!

fredJ

I think the customer pushed it in with too much force really, in the wrong angle.
I don't think it fell out by itself, at least.

But you can't "idiot proof" everything. Better to put it in a case. After all, we all make stupid mistakes so.... And what do I know.

He wants a refund from me, however, even though he then lost the chip after his cat walked over it. Or so he says.

Probably better if people just use them on their top loaders.

Considering the intended purpose for these is to allow the Famicom Everdrive to fit in an NES cart shell, Krikzz (who designed both) isn't in the wrong. I'm not trying to put any blame on you (and Krikzz should have designed it with FC cart lip space in mind), but then you ARE trying to force this adapter to do what it isn't supposed to.

fredJ

Yes, I agree with you, I made a mistake and I don't put blame on Krikzz.
Just trying to figure out what to do now...

Personally, I'd to what hvc01 said and take a dremel/hand grinder to those tabs. They seem to be nothing but huge GND and 5v planes, so there shouldn't be anything to ruin.

Also I think a great solution would be to ribbon cable the adaptor from inside a nes cart shell and plug famicom games in from outside the toaster.  :pow:

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well snapping of the tabs is very easyily done.

But because the adapter circuit board is fragile and because the connector is very tight (you have push the cart hard 5 times on each side to get it in), I think it is necessary to build a shell of some sort. Otherwise one will break the whole circuit board sooner or later.

Also not sure of the long time effects on cart and connector to push it in when so extremely tight, but maybe it isn't a problem.
