I always wanted one of those. Are they affordable now?

manuel

Depends on your definition of affordable.
I've seen Japanese Neo Geos for under 9000 Yen in Japanese online shops. That sound affordable to me.

I'd rather just play NEO-GEO games on an arcade cabinet. It is much better that way (I realize not cost effective though). My favorite games for the geo though would have to be the Metal Slug series, Last Blade 1 & 2 (better than Samurai Shodown), Samurai Shodown 5, and Garou : Mark of the Wolves.

Even if you buy your own Neo Geo cabinet, it's still cheaper than buying AES versions of games.

Indeed!

First i had a neogeo aes. I buyed it for 170 Euro (Thats cheap here! in europe)
I Selled it for 130 Euro because the sound was not good. The red plug didnt work so it was mono sound :(.
And then i buyed a original british neogeo mvs  cabinet with a 4 slot pcb.
Ive done this because aes games are way too expensive too purchase, its freakin' bizar.
Waku waku 7 for 350-400 Euros thats insane..
Or an original metal slug (no conversion for 2000 Euro :(
Im happy with the cab but i want  purchase a neogeo cd too. A frontloader.
Thats just awesome and the games are really cheap.

May I ask how much the cabinet cost?

Har the cat

Ive paid 450 euro for the cab, a little expensaive but they are very rare here in the netherlands.

And i paid 100 euro for the pcb...

I  still dont regret

don't bother buying a neo geo cd, the load times are terrible, it will make you want to kill yourself

Har the cat

Is it really so bad?
LOL  I know it has 1x speed.  I think over to purchase one. But the games are really cheap that is seductive.. :)

Well that's not that bad considering the games are cheaper. Nice deal I'd say. :D

If you have an MVS, I wouldn't bother getting a Neo CD.

Har the cat

I want it very much but actually it is a wast of money...  :'(

A big bump to an old thread.

Does anybody know a good site with Neo Geo game reviews and/or info?

Or can you recommend games for Neo Geo that are not fighting or shooting games? I mean, are there any platformers or something?

A really good site with a nice forum is Neo-Geo.com.  I'm registered there under nintendodork, but I still haven't been able to make a topic. :(

It does have a lot of good information (and some good reviews and links) about Neo Geo games.

I'll look through again and edit my post, but I know I saw some cool, unique-looking platformers for the thing on Youtube,  I still haven't bought the consolized MVS I said I was going to get, but now after Christmas time, I have a bit more money, and along with the 111-in-1 multicartridge, MVS's seem like a really good investment.  I can't speak personally for AES's though unless you want a bit of a cheaper system and want to spend more on label art. :)

Edit*  Games that come to mind are Bomberman, Puzzle Bobble, Neo Mr. Do!, Magician Lord (you get to play as Shinobi if you get the right power up), and Blue's Journey.  I can't remember if these are AES or MVS games (Sorry.  :-X) But they are really unique games/ports nonetheless.

Edit 2* I know you said something other than fighting games, but I just thought it would be funny to say that there was a Double Dragon game on the Neo Geo, except it was a fighting game instead of a beat 'em up. :D
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

Oh yeah I forgot about Magician Lore, i like that game. Two others good Neo Geo games are Ninja Combat and Ghost Pilot... There was some other platformer but i dont remember the name... I know you could walk into the background.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...
