Purchasing an Everdrive

Hi guys, my folks asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year and I told them I really didn't need / want much of anything, but that I would like a Famicom everdrive (one of those things I wanted for awhile, but wasn't on my priority list to drop the cash).  So I sent my mom a link to the everdrive distributors, but then she told me that she needed me to specifically say what I wanted / needed.  The thing is, I am not sure, so I would like to ask some questions.

I saw Everdrive can be purchased here.  There is the option of "usb drive installed."  Do some everdrive units come without the usb port?!  Is this a necessary part of the everdrive (i.e. is it worth getting, or not really?)  what are the benefits of getting it with the usb port?

You don't need USB if you want it for roms.
USB is for homebrew and mappers development.

Thanks!  That's what I needed to know.  :)

Purchased my n8 on the day of release and other then the lack of complex and bootleg mapper support it is faultless.
I even had a thought through my head that i should sell me collection and give up on legit carts but that was just a silly thought.
Anyway with just an av famicom and an n8 any nostalgia fan should should be in heaven.

When my parents ask what i want for christmas im always like i got this on ebay already i can wrap it up and u can give it to me on the day  8)

I got it with USB but I got the offiial shell and it doesn't have a slot for USB, and I was too lazy to cut a hole yet. The USB port would have saved me a lot of trouble when I made the ROB homebrew program.

It's not impossible to add the USB port later though so if you are not a developer you probably don't need it.

So last night I started playing the Mother 25th Anniversary edition hack and was VERY thankful to be owning this contraption that made this possible to do.  If only I could go back in time and give the Everdrive to my younger self.  I think I would piss my pants from happiness.

I'm currently playing the GBA version, how does it compare?

I have no clue.  This is actually my first playthrough ever of the game.  Yeah, I'm reallllllllllllly late to the party lol

Me too!  i think the translation on the 25th version is 'better' while the GBA version has some modern niceties like run, button shortcuts for a couple of commands and is a fair chunk easier as well.

The original game is supposed to be very hard by default.

I read that the 25th version is using Tomato's GBA translation though.

Yeah the original is very hard, especially the final place Holy Roly Mountain/Mt Itoi. I remember a video with Itoi joking about when it was about time to test play that part of the game, he was all like "ma ii ka" (it's all-right)! ;D

FYI, you can run in the original version too with the B button.

Only in the English prototype, not in the original game.
