Famicom Cart Storage

Two things I'm looking for: storage options for loose carts, and cases to hold individual carts/manuals.

I've read that audio cassette cases work for the former and genesis cases for the latter.

Is anyone using either? If so, do you have any photographs?

If not, is there something more preferable?

Genesis cases do work.  I don't have any pics, but I confirmed it one time after hearing about it on here.

Audio cassette cases will not work, since FC carts are about the size of the case itself rather than the size of an audio cassette.  However, a cassette tape holder will work really well, as they are designed to hold cassette cases.

Yes, cassette tape holders will also work, I can personally attest for that one as well (once again, no pictures though).

I like using these fancy little IKEA boxes used for offices, the ones with the metal corners on them and labels. Or just put them all on a shallow book case/CD DVD shelf. CD/DVD shelves from IKEA are cheap and also stylish and modern. Cassette cases could be hard to find, look outdated, and also stink like old farts.

Thanks. Feel free to merge the two if possible. Yeah, I've been browsing ebay for some audio cassette holders. Overall, I intend  to have probably less than a dozen loose carts, so I'm not looking for anything too big (12-24 tape size).

As for the Genesis cases, do they need the side tabs removed? Do the carts look natural in there? I'm looking into cases for a Famicom release of Pyronaut when it comes around.

Yes, Famicom carts fit very nicely into storage intended for audio cassette cases. It provides for some interesting storage options if you visit the thrift stores. (Because who needs cassette storage anymore?)

I guess the Japanese's use of the term "cassette" was appropriate after all.

Yup, and it's not only Japan. I guess they borrowed the term from German or something since many languages probably use it like cartridge is used in English (for example in Swedish we say "kassett" for computer and video game cartridges, while cassette tapes are still called "kassettband" which is literary "cassette tape").

Interestingly enough I've seen the term カートリジ (kaatoriji) be used on some late Famicom game boxes, so I guess the terms could be used interchangeably.

Quite simple solution - to use common bookcase with additional shelves to use the space more intensively (I used pieces of jambs of the same color as shelves).
I didn't fix it at all, the rows of carts are just standing one on another

I really like the look of that.  Initially, I had wanted to do something similar to store all of my carts, but I couldn't find bookcases that were suitable enough for such a display.  So I bought some plastic containers with pullout drawers, and each drawer is the perfect size for fitting Famicom game carts.  I'll take some pics later and post. 

I had used old cassette boxes at one point, but they were always mixed in style, design and quality, things were always hard to find, etc.

Thanks for the cassette storage idea! It worked great for my carts.

However, what do you guys do with FDS games that still have the outer casing? Has anyone found any good ideas for those?

I wish I had a good way of storing the disks too.  Any ideas?
