Hi.

I recently got 2 famicom system, one CIB one loose. After comparing the two I found the loose one had 2, probably significant, differences.

First, on the sticker across the front it has the 'FF' symbol, for famicom family, on the left hand side, where as the CIB one doesn't and the box's picture doesn't show it either.

I assumed it might be an age thing, so turned them over, but both showed 1983. but the stickers that show '4W....HVC-002' but the loose one's sticker has a sqaure image with 'VCI' inside it.

whats the meaning of these?
is it just a later model?

sorry no pics, typed this all on my wii, pc is bust.

CIB serial number- H15239989
loose- HC1414367.

If they help

if you went and downloaded my famicom age program, which is available on this site, you wouldn't  of had to have asked.

anyway, the thing on the bottom is just copyright. one of yours was made pre 1986 and the other was made after 1986

Typing on the wii sucks. Nintendo should release a wireless keyboard for it! or some add on for the wiimote.

I find it pretty cool and innovative, but they should release a keyboard. :)

Yeah so no downloado.

Would 5he box art be any different for a post 1986 famicom?

They should do a keyboard and mouse, the GC keyboard was funny though.

JC

The only difference yet mentioned around here for Famicom box art is square buttons on the Famicom controller pic vs. round buttons. Search around a bit if you don't know what I'm talking about, but essentially the first Famicoms released had square buttons. The first release FDS box opened at the side instead of the top, like the Famicom box.

STEPHEN_FM

Yeah I know about sqaure button famicoms, they recalled cause they would get stuck.

I would of thought they'd do a box change. With BASIC the box art fits in with the famicom box art[silver background, red lettering and photo of product] where as the 3D glasses and FDS boxes i have seen look a lot different, they both have grey box with a colourless orthographic like drawing of the product and have a colour to identify them, 3DS-blue and FDS-yellow.

Is it worth keeping just becuase it's a later model?

I'm looking at my famicom and various images on the net, and on eBay, and I've noticed a difference...

(the one on the right)

I was just wondering why some models have the "FF" logo on the front left, and some don't? Mine doesn't have it.

JC

I'm pretty sure it's just the age of the Famicom. Famicoms with the Famicom Family symbol are older -- likely because the "family" hadn't been created yet.

many wireless keyboards work fine with it. I've only tried a couple but have not found one that does not work right.

Hi all,

I am buying a Famicom system at this moment, I received a picture of the seller and I was just looking at it when I saw something strange. On the front logo of the console, you see: Family Computer and the brand name Nintendo. But i noticed that I am missing the Famicom Family logo on the left side.. Is this because this is a fake console? Or is it just an older model? What would be a regular price for this one in this state?

I hope someone can answer my question :) I added the picture, it's rubbish but I hope you can see what I mean!

Thanks,

Steven

Thats official, its just a older model; you may want to consider getting a new'r model because they have steel covered pin connectors and are way more reliable then the earlier models.

Can't you plug in a USB keyboard into it?  It's been a while since I've been home, & I haven't yet taken advantage of all its features, so I don't know. :-\
