Does anyone here own a Japanese SMS with the enhanced sound chip? I'd like to get my hands on one.

I have a Mark III, but I don't know if there are several versions and if I have the one with the enhanced sound chip. Either way, I wouldn't sell it anyways.  ;) It was the only one I found in Japan.

I don't own a SMS, but, it could be possible to install the enhanced sound chip (if you find one somewhere) in your non-enhanced SMS ::)

The chip

It's been done already.  The biggest issue now is finding that chip outside of Japan, even in Japan they're difficult to find.  Might be easier to just buy a Mark III and buy one of the FM add-on units that came out.

Maybe you could find one in old ISA-based soundcards (like the Ad Lib or early SoundBlasters), or some old cheap synthesizer keyboard.

Both the Ad Lib and Sound Blaster used a YM3812.

Yup you're right... and a Yamaha synthesizer keyboard may run a little expensive, even if it's old and/or busted, just to take the chip out of it.

I have a Japanese SMS. I tried modding my American SMS for FM sound, and even went so far as pull out a YM2413 from an old Yamaha keyboard, but I found it too complicated. So a couple of months ago I found a CIB Japanese SMS on eBay, and now I use it instead of my American SMS. Gotta love that 2-operator FM sound...

What does that name mean?
Yeah, sorry I'm a noob... :-[

133MHz

It's the part number of the NTSC version of the NES/Famicom 8 bit microprocessor. The PAL one is the RP2A07.
