Hi,

I'm trying to use my Krikzz's EverDrive N8 NES on an AV Famicom via a NES-to-Famicom adaptor. However, most games show graphical glitches and eventually crashes. Slightly moving the cart sometimes helps, but not fully. Here is the adaptor, recently purchased on eBay:  :redcart:

Used with my NES cart, it works fine, except for an unlicensed-Chinese-pirate-multigame cart, where I get some graphical glitches. The EverDrive itself works perfectly, as shown in my NES. The AV Famicom seems to read properly all my Famicom carts.

I've tried cleaning & re-inserting the adaptor, but haven't succeed. Has anyone experienced such problem? How could it be solved? Is it true that some adaptors doesn't work with EverDrive N8 NES? Does anyone know of an NES-to-Famicom adaptor working on AV Famicom with EverDrive N8 NES?  ???

Thank you very much in advance! Cheers!

Great Hierophant

Did you clean all four sets of pins?  The EverDrive, the adaptor on both ends and the Famicom AV's slot?  That adapter works well for me with a PowerPak, but it requires a mod just to work at all.  Maybe the EverDrive requires the mod even if it isn't immediately apparent :

Hi Great Hierophant,

Thank you very much for your response and wise advice. Yeah, I extensively cleaned all pin sets once and once again, with no result. I checked the link you provide and consider the mod possibility. However, I'm not completely sure that such mentioned pairs of pins are connected. I mean, in my adaptor Famicom pins 48-49 and NES pins 57-58 are linked by a clearer green connection in the PCB, but there doesn't seem to be any metal connection linking each pair. In addition, I tested some of the reported games (After Burner, Castlevania III and Gauntlet), only the latter freezing after a gameplay period. My main concern regarding the adaptor mod is that it could deteriorate it and render it useless in case it is not necessary to be performed.

So, do you think my pin pairs are really tied together and thus I do need to carry out the adaptor mod?

Anyway, I think there is no option but trying the mod, since I want the adaptor to work with the EverDrive after all...

If you open your nes n8, you should see the everdrive pcb in famicom format, linked to a famicom to nes adapter. Simply take the everdrive pcb and plug in your famicom, at least you should be able to play that way, and you could add a famicom cartridge shell.

Hehehe! That's what I thought as a first approach... But no way, the ED-N8 NES has its own PCB, different from that of ED-N8 Famicom. I opened it, and no Famicom-to-NES adaptor at all.

In case it helps, here are pics of my disassembled adaptor:

Please, could anyone confirm if it ACTUALLY has Famicom pins 48-49 and NES pins 57-58 connected?

It does, you must cut the light green bit connecting the pins and wire it up appropriately.

Finally, I carried out the mod according to the instructions given in a thread at NintendoAge (see picture at sixth post), in which an identical adapter to mine is used:

http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=153660

However, it didn't get rid of the problem. In addition, a background hum sound showed up when using the adapter. Even checking the mod out and re-cutting the linked pins, I cannot fix it. :-(

Well, at least I've tried... Maybe the best solution is getting an ED-N8 Famicom version...  :-\

Any ideas/suggestions/advice/hints/tricks/whatever?
