The Famicom one of course has a way better game list! I am so excited to own them both!

Ok, there are 8 games difference between the mini nes and mini famicom.

Games which come on the Mini Nes only:
Bubble bobble
Castlevania II
Donkey kong jr
Final fantasy
Kid icarus
Punch out
Startropics
Tecmo bowl

Games on the mini famicom only:
Atlantis no nazo
Downtown nekketsu koshinkyoku
Final fantasy III
NES open golf tournament
River city ransom
Solomon's key
Tsuppari ozumo
Yie ar kung fu

What do you think of the mini famicom exclusive titles? Personally, i think the mini nes has a better selection, but i might be biased growing up outside of Japan.

Awesome.

And from this site it seems it will have disk system games as well :)

Amazing news!  The best part about this for me is I can now order a couple of Famicom styled Wii controllers for Virtual Console ~

No it seems to have hardwired controllers to keep true to the original. On the other hand it comes with two controllers to start with and I guess one has the microphone needed for Atlantis no Nazo and Zelda. But you can connect Classic Controller to the Nes version so you might not need to buy an extra.

I think both regions have relly good exclusives. Nes mini has Bubble bobble, Final fantasy, Kid icarus and Punch Out while Famicom has two Kunio-kun games, FF3, Solomon no Kagi and I guess it has the FDS version of Zelda, Metroid, and Akumajou Dracula which are supperior to the cart versions.

In the end I think the Famicom version is a bit more intersting of the two.

I don't think it does necessarily - they haven't shown how the cables are attached inside - for now, I will hope :)

Also, getting from Amazon gives you some extras an options (but no extra controllers): https://goo.gl/mnTLka

Also, a new poster is on the page, see it by clicking on the spoiler tag below, it's a bit too big for the forum:

Yeah I guess it's a Classic Controller with a different connector, so it might be possible to make a Classic Controller adapter for them. I don't think the controllers will be sold separately though so you have to buy the whole system and steal the controllers (unless you can get spare parts).

Those Amazone deals seems nice though. You get AC-adapter and 30 postcards with cartridge motives and it's still cheaper than the Nes Classic Mini.

Looking at the video, it looks like the controller II microphone is just for show, and after some googling it seems that it does not have a functioning microphone. So you are supposed to fight Pols Voice with your sword? Give me a break!

If there is a connector, it is inside the console's enclosure.  Look at 4:30 in the announcement video linked in the first post.

I had predicted that Nintendo would have done a substantial reshuffle of the game lineup because some U.S. games are not particularly popular in Japan and vice versa, but I was way too ambitious.

It was nice that they gave disk system versions of games, they could have just put the cartridge releases (JP for Zelda and Dracula, US for Metroid and Zelda 2) and called it a day.  This means that the FDS audio channel will require emulation, a tricky beast.  I already have concerns about the fidelity of the noise channel emulation.

OMG!!!  WOOOOWWW!!  I want one sooooooo bad!!  How the hell am I going to get this from the US???  :'(  :'(  :'(  I want 2 of them.  One to play with and the other to keep sealed forever.  ;D

Any Japan based FW members want to buy and ship out??

P

Can't you just import it yourself from Japanese Amazone or something?

Yeah but unless they soldered the controllers to the PCB, it's possible you may just be able to disconnect it like on a Famicom and add a Classic Controller connector to it.

Yes but I think almost all these games are popular everywhere (except Tecmo Bowl and Tsuppari Oozumou). They might have based the lineup on sales or something.

Isn't the FDS audio channel already emulated in some Virtual Console games? I guess the system is using some Wii- or DS-like hardware.

We know these are the VC versions, and that they run on something of a Wii-esque hardware.  So I am still HOPING the controllers are not hard-wired, but they may well be.

The reason the titles are different from some of the NES titles will be 90% for licensing reasons, though I am surprised that Kid Icarus especially got left off.

Startropics & Tecmo Bowl make sense to replace, but I think the Fami got mostly good replacements, even if all in the NES has a more rounded list.

Loving the design and setup of the menus though, the video options and the multiple save points system.  Packaging design also looks good and spot on.

Not loving the hard-wired controllers (if they are) but I get that it has to look and feel like the real thing and people's real memories of playing.

I'm also trying to order two - and I think I'll even order a second NES Mini from America at some point, if the prices don't get aloof.

Anyone have any experience with ordering from Amazon Japan?  I'm thinking of hopping on as soon as they're available for this.  I NEED two of these.

Another update - NES controllers are wired - deemed as 'very bad news' from a non-fan, but they still look removable...  Also strongly appears based on the Wii (not WiiU VC)...

I think most of us would agree that the Wii has better overall NES/Famicom emulation over the Wii U.  But the Wii is not capable of Hi-Def and the Wii U is essentially an upgraded Wii from a hardware perspective.  I would be inclined to see this as a mix of both consoles.  The controllers do look awfully small, even by Japanese standards.

The microphone, cartridge flap and eject lever and expansion port cover are all non-functional and non-removable of course.

As far as no microphone for killing Pols Voice, you are getting savestates!  Don't make me bust out the world's tiniest violin.
