I am very surprised the US didn't have it for pre-order at all.  I mean, I get that they want people to go to stores, and that they would go right away to scalpers.

But if they'd had pre-orders, they could have hurried up and made more.  And regardless, they mostly went to scalpers anyway right.

Having said all that - the exact same thing happened to me when the Wii launched here - and I pre-ordered that too in store, because I knew someone there.

Even then they still had barely anything so I only just got one in the end, with the games and controllers factored in.  And it cost a lot for that privilege.

I pre-ordered the Switch like the NES mini the moment I could, to ensure I get one.  But actually, I'm not all that hyped about the Switch anymore.  I have very little time.

Oh man, exactly the same thing with me!!  I pre-ordered the switch as well to get one, but when I found out that Zelda will be the best launch game, Mario game not coming out til holiday season, and basically nothing else confirmed in stone I'm not as excited.  I'm basically getting it in faith that it'll be good at this point, because the Wii U did so bad that I feel like they'll correct their mistakes and have a better second try.

The biggest problem is there is no word from Nintendo about releasing more so this might have just become the rarest Nintendo console of all time. I sure hope that's not the case but it's been nearly a month without a new release set... if that ends up being the case then I will end up buying from a scalper as I like the idea of an official HD NES with proper visual and sound emulation.

I think they're just concentrating on Switch production and that is also  the main reason why these were dry in the first place.  There should be more - unless they are making a Vol.2

I've heard they have decided to start working on a SNES Classic Mini instead, so likely the NES version was a special Christmas only item that they underestimated the potential sales for.

It's fun to see the NES back in stores and people hyped up about it but I personally grew out of it. The Mini NES just consists of emulation and roms, yeah, legal emulation but it's still emulation. Decided to build a 3DS collection instead which was rather late but there are still a lot of good deals for sealed 3DS titles, imo.

With the Switch on the way, they should focus on the NS even moreso considering it has a terrible launch lineup of only one good game worth buying and playing -- Zelda.

Bingo - that's why I'd stick to the Hi-Def NES kit from Kevtris 8)

The emulation is perfect and it gives options that I really like, and now you can hack it which gives me the ability to play all my games which is a large library instantly without needing to switch cartridges (it's also cheaper then buying a HD NES and flashcart combo).

I don't believe there is such a thing for Famicom as a perfect emulator. There are highly accurate emulators but there are always some quirks they can't emulate (besides new quirks are discovered all the time).

Oh I dunno, the AVS is looking pretty damn good, granted it's FPGA-based.  Definitely gonna have to pick one of those up at some point I think, in a year or so.

Apparently these are coming back into stock in Limited numbers tomorrow.  Heads up.  I don't there'll be a finite supply, that would be idiotic.

The Mini NES has started popping up at Smyths and other UK retailers so it was really just a matter of time and patience to get it for the original RRP or below the RRP. Smyths' clerk was right, January's the month that it's coming back in stock.

So I ended up ordering a replica based on Raspberry Pi, and I think I like it better.

That looks pretty cool - are they available from somewhere or is it a custom?

Available on eBay but in very limited supply.
If you want one: http://m.ebay.com/itm/252737826747

It's an exact scaled replica of the NES Classic Edition but it's been 3D printed and has Raspberry Pi inside.

Thanks, might grab that - if I can get it over to England safely and cheaply :)

The reviews from the other buyers beyond myself have been positive on his feedback, so I am excited about receiving mine. His case is literally an exact replica, and he's the only one who makes this version as he designed the case. I have seen other NES Raspberry Pi's but they were nowhere near as nice.

I also ordered black NES controller replicas as his version is Grey and Black rather then true NES colored.
