I just tryed it on my Japanese Copy, the Debug Code won't work for me..

Is your SMB3 cart a pirate cart?  The debug code isn't working on my dump of the pirate cart, but it is working on the dump of the legit cart.

Does the debug code work on anybody else's SMB3 Famicom cart?

I'll keep looking for a code that works, but this one is proving to be a bit more difficult to figure out.

MarioMania

It's the real thing...I don't know why it's not working

I dunno man.  I can't figure this one out.  My debugger of choice doesn't support the pirate rom's mapper and I've had minimal success with other emus/debuggers.  I guess you're outta luck  :(

The pirate rom apparently comes from this cart:
http://www.tripoint.org/kevtris/mappers/single_pirates/BTL_MMC3A.html

so, I guess you would know if you had a pirate cart.  I'm not really sure what else the problem could be.  Again, can anyone else with a famicom smb3 cart verify if the debug code works or doesn't work?

JC

I'll tell you what, I've tried some of these codes, like the debug, on my NES version before and didn't get them to work. And sometimes they'd work and other times they wouldn't.

UglyJoe

Hrmm...I dunno what it is then, unless there are different versions of the same game in the same region (pirates excluded).

FamicomFreak

Wow this is a freaky code....I tried it on my SMB3 USA cart and it didn't worked. Maybe I'm doing something wrong....

MarioMania

Does the Japanese Version have 2 versions of the game like the US copy

There are PRG0 and PRG1 roms for the Japanese and US versions.  From what I've read (though I can't 100% confirm) is that program chips on the game's PCB would have a PRG0 or PRG1 printed on them.  These refer to revisions of the game (PRG0 being a first run, PRG1 being a slightly revised/bugfixed version).  Differences appear to be minimal, but it might be enough to screw up Game Genie codes.

(although, the debug code is working for me in both the PRG0 and PRG1 roms in both regions  ???)

MarioMania

I have to find the early version

On both SMB3 on the NES..Does the Manual have diffenet code

UglyJoe

I'm not sure, but I doubt it.  If you can get the cart open, you'll see the phrase "PRG0" or "PRG1" printed on one of the chips.  That's the only way I know of to check.

There is an easier way:

Play the game until you get 80.000 points and the Card Bonus appears on the map screen, go to it and check what Toad says:

PRG0 Version:

PRG1 Version:

As you see the first one contains a spelling error (your - you're) so it was fixed in the next version, using the same amount of characters ;D

There's an even easier way - look at the labels & check for the -1 after the code.  You can also look at the orientation of the word "Bros." If it is to the left, it is the first release, if it is to the right, it is the second.

I'm going to hunt down it..any pics of the differets
