I'm restoring a revision 3 famicom & used vinyl spray to cover all the ugly discoloring. Fixing to order a decal kit from retroraiderjapan & I have a couple of questions. First of course is the quality of the labels & second are the new silicon button pads they offer with the kit for additional $5 any good? So far I can say this vinyl paint looks great & goes on so well as long as your patient and apply several light coats in different directions to get every nook and cranny of the famicom shell. Also I used toothpaste and cottonballs to polish the smooth bottom shell & the smooth dust flap (which is only on extremely early released famicoms only smooth flap I've seen thus far. I really wanted to bring it back to it's former glory & I've done the AV mod on this console so the little AV sticker that comes in the kit will be put to use as well. Here's some pics.

Thanks. I thought of the retrobrite method and watched a few videos with mixed results plus I read that it will turn back yellow again with time most likely so I wanted a brighter, longer lasting solution. I saw the vinyl paint being put to use on a famicom & I really liked the results. The one I sprayed yesterday turned out so well today I actually took a 1989 famicom apart and masked off the parts on it since they are in good shape overall & sprayed it. I had the paint left over & it was nice sunny day so why not I figured. I've let both sit out in the sun all day but I'll know more about how well this vinyl stuff works once I get putting things back together. I've painted several custom consoles various themes in the past few years with rustoleum spray paints which I found to be the best. With a famicom though the eject slider I knew would be an issue with paint wear so I'm hopeful this vinyl stuff is durable enough to handle it. I know it goes on far finer like more of a mist it's really apparent how good it works around the power, eject, and reset lettering.

this white glare  8) you have to put on sunglasses :D  :star: :o
About the retrobrite , there is no problem I already  retrobrited many old hardware and 2 years later still white  ;D  If you keep the retrobrited plastic in shade and not hot place  :fire:  it will be ok for very long time :)   :redcart:

I was strongly considering retrobrite but the stuff I read that works the best was expensive & needed full sunny day at least which has been few and far between here. Then I read a few folks who had retrobrited & said 6 months later the yellow was returning so that pushed me to another option which was vinyl spray. I just wonder if the console is used if the heat from the 7805 discolors it from within because if so that would mean playing the console could make them turn yellow if heat is what does it but if it's not played it be fine for a while. I know my old one gets really hot at the back of the console. I actually saw where a guy purchased a square button that was suppose to be new in the box for $1200 & began suspecting it had been painted but they had done a very nice job. Pictures of it he had showed whoever had painted it really done it right but there were minor ways to tell which he determined it was painted so seller gave him $800 refund but controllers looked brand new so not sure what was going on there. I can say this vinyl spray looks amazing on them & for all the systems I've painted with spray paint over the past few years I wish I had thought of using this vinyl spray for the whites, reds, and blacks because those colors are available in the dupli-coat vinyl spray at least. Today I took the masking tape off the power and reset stickers and the yellow under them just looked too bad even if it wasn't as bad as the rest so I went ahead and peeled those off and used more of the vinyl spray to cover that yellow. I took the stickers and used goo gone to remove all the residue & am going to attempt to use double sided tape to reuse them. I'm sure not spending another $20 on a kit for this 89 unit. Since it plays most of my clone games and multicarts I'm going to make it my player for those carts even if I have to AV mod it. I'm hopeful to find a tuner solution by adding a variable capacitor like the guy on youtube did which made his famicom tune into channel 5 and 6. RF looks as good as composite as long as tv frequency can tune it precise which the one I plan on hooking this famicom up to it works on 96 but horrible picture. My smaller LCD 96 looks great.

I know about this guy on youtube with variable capacitor :) but I do not need this mod, but it is good to know about it :) About retrobrite, do not worry I assure you that method is approved :)  I use 30% peroxide from chemistry shop and it is cheep 1 L was about  2 Euto if a remember well , And heat is required , not specially sun :) here my resolute with only peroxide on heat for several hours :)
I restored only keys for now . it was easier to put them i a jar on a radiator :D
for the rest I have to wait the summer , boathouse here is winter and snow not so hod sun outside :P

Looks great & I'm going to have to try this method sometime in the future. All I have is hydrogen peroxide which is just 3 percent but I'm curious how it would work with a space heater sitting close to it or possibly under a aluminum turkey pan heating it up. I think I would be better off just getting 30% peroxide as long as it's inexpensive. I got the top pieces and stickers back on my 89 famicom ( I used old stickers on this one using double sided tape on the power and reset clean decals. I used good gone to clean them really well & then rubbing alcohol to clean them before applying the scotch double sided tape and pretty happy with it overall. A crease shows in center of each sticker though I needed 1 inch double sided tape which is how wide those are & that would have look a bit better but still not bad considering they are the 30 year old originals which I peeled off. My revision 3 should look a lot better with the new decal kit I'll be putting on. Also, I managed to get the 89 famicom working ok through RF on my 32" tv on channel 96. The longer cable I was using before was low quality so I switched to a short Subwoofer cable with thick shielding and done some adjustments on my set to get it satisfactory to me. I'm going to post a topic on it if you want to check out pics because might be helpful to others.
