Hey there!

I just bought and catalogued Metal Fighter and noticed something odd - when looking for pictures of the shell I can't find one that looks just like mine.

Can you help me identify this one?

There are high res pictures just below the two previews.

It seems to be the normal Sachen release by its looks, according to this side:

It starts up with the title screen of that release. Unfortunatly I don't have a method to dump the cartridge to compare the roms.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have seen such boards before from Sachen product.  The 2x5 pin header at the top of the cartridge is for a lockout chip bypass chip or circuitry.  I have seen other Sachen games with a daughterboard that provides the functionality, although they are located inside the cartridge shell, not outside.  This release may have been intended for 72-pin clones (which obviously do not have lockout chips) and top loaders.

I see, thanks a lot! Searched quite a bit and couldn't find another version of the cartridge. I wondered if Sachen sold a daughterboard for different regions :D
