I have a pirated dipswitch version of Spelunker, and its very fun.
So I bet a real in the box version must rock massively.

The cart has a red LED on it -- for no good reason!

The Famicom itself doesn't have a LED to tell if it's turned on & receiving power, that's a good reason to me.

MaxXimus

It seems like a logical reason to me. They could have had it for decoration, but to indicate power seems to be the best answer. :)

My Famicom collecting is coming along nicely, now I'm up to 9 (Quality ones, in my opinion) games:

Still having trouble getting Flipull and Pocketzaurus to work, though.

Where is the LED?

I looked up a picture of it, but I can't see the LED.

It it the character's eyes, or something?

Try cleaning them up with some alcohol using a swab if you haven't

Top center.

Oh.

I looked up the wrong game ><

MaxXimus

Oh, wow. That's neat. How hard do you suppose it would be to mod a game to have an LED light? Or is that possible?
