Quotewhy you want to collect Famicom?

I don't really know. For one thing, there's probably less than 50 NES games I like/want to own. (Those that I do like I think are great, though.) But there's a lot of crap games on it, and with Famicom, sure there's games that also suck but there's also a lot more interesting stuff. Also, it's interesting to see what got changed between the Famicom (what I'd consider the "original") and the US versions.

That's one of the main reasons why I collect, too. :)

Welcome, dude. It's cool to have people on the forum who don't know everything there is to know, 'cause you kick us into exploring more by asking questions. :) So, don't hesitate to ask.

Why doesn't Gyromite get any respect anymore?

I swear, fool - you've only been here one day & are already going to be on my ban list. >:(

I'm bringing back Jacquio:

Ouch....

OK, well, I don't have a ROB so that's part of the problem.
As I have it though, it's sorta unplayable unless you use your feet for one controller and hands to control that guy.
I don't mean to offend, really!

Awesome, dac. I hope you've enjoyed the site and hope you like the forum, too. :) What brought you to the site, searching for something in particular, or just generally interested in Famicom?

Love the site. I've been playing famicom for over a year and half and nes all my life. And I love collecting nintendo games, systems, etc. I found this site linked on nesplayer.com and been visiting ever since.

Dain

Hey everyone!

I'm Dain, the founder of NintendoAge.com, and I pretty much collect NES right now. I've veered off into some Famicom stuff over the last year and hope to build it up a bit more once my NES set is complete.

I want to say thanks to JL and JC for inviting me over to this great site! I hope to stop by from time-to-time and get to know you guys better.

Hi Dain.
Welcome.
You're the nintendoage guy? Nice site. ;D

133MHz

I'm 133MHz, I'm 18 years old and I live in Santiago, Chile. This is the second forum I join (the other being a computer & electronics repair forum in my native language) mainly because I love all things Famicom and I like the community here  ;) . I love electronics and computing (mainly the hardware part of it, not very good at programming besides some BASIC and Visual Basic), and so I love video games, especially the 8 and 16 bit consoles

My NES addiction began when I was a kid (playing at a friend's house) but never got one (I got a SNES on xmas '94 but I still liked the NES). I began collecting by late 1999-early 2000 when I got a second-hand NES (but in a very mint condition) for like ten bucks, with six games and a bunch of Famiclones the previous owner burnt when trying to plug them to an Atari power supply :P (got some pretty interesting 190 in 1 'board' from one of them) . Also internet access became cheap for the home on that time, so I got cable modem in my house and discovered tsr's games archive, and learned about the Famicom, the Disk System, SMB2j, etc. Then my obsession began  ;D .

Here in Chile the FC market is not as big as it is in Brazil, but today in almost any supermarket you find the usual stack of cheap Famiclones with the 10000000000000000000000000000 in 1 carts that only contain like 5 games. The real gems are found in obscure game stores (they usually have some good pirate Famicom stuff) and something that's called 'el mercado persa' (literally the persian market). It's like a giant flea market that sets up every weekend mornings on the seedier parts of town, that's where you get the real gems :P like my SMB2j cart, good multicarts (64 in 1 with ~55 games), converters, obscure and not-so-cheap Famiclones, good NES games, etc.

My Famicom collection is pretty modest (1 toaster NTSC NES w/ Famicom converter, controllers, Zapper, Game Genie, about 8 NES games and 8 FC games, most of them pirates, and several Famiclones I usually use for electronics experiments ;D). A Famicom or Disk System (or a Twin) is really way out of my financial reach (around here one Famicom was sold for like 300 bucks!) and, because of the shipping fees, EBay and importing is not a real option for me, but it is my dream to get a real Famicom one day. For now, I'll just continue my search for the real FC gems buried under all the Famiclone shit :P.

One of my latest projects is overclocking my NES. Got like seven TTL crystal clock generators from an old ISA video card a few days ago, from 16 to 44MHz! . Gotta try that soon  ;)

Long story short, I'm very happy to participate in this wonderful community, and I hope I sometime could help you guys with any Famicom related electronics problems/questions/etc, and also learn much more and have fun and make great friends around here. Also I'm going to upload pictures and TV captures of my weird pirates pretty soon. Well, see you later guys!

P.S: My intro is pretty long  ;D
