Don't forget Gradius II, and Joy Mech Fight! and Famicom Wars is a good one too, but there is quite a bit of Japanese... ;)

CRISIS FORCE! Best shooter ever? Possibly.

namakubi

Crisis Force looks awesome, just looked up some videos and it looks like a blast, I will keep my eye out for it.

Medisinyl

I own Crisis Force as well and can also recommend it.

And to Nintendodork (you had asked about the Splaterhouse price)...Dunno about what he got his for of course, but I own a Splatterhouse CIB with stickers and all cards that I got from eBay very recently for $50.

EDIT:  My Avatar may give away my recommendation for Holy Diver as well if you like Castlevania type games or are a fan of Dio.

Hey there, Namakubi from Seattle. Into video games, that's why I'm here, just stumbled upon this site since buying a Famicom and it seems like a great community, I have too many games to list but as for systems I own (in order of their release):

-Intellivison II
-Famicom
-NES (2)
-Genesis
-SNES (3)
-N64 (3)
-Dreamcast (2)
-PS2
-Gamecube
-Xbox
-Wii

Can't wait to explore this site more, I may be up for submitting some Famicom reviews / images for the website as well.

Yeah I've been keeping my eye out for Holy Diver (and HOLY CRAP I had NO IDEA it was based on the Dio song, I assumed it was just a crazy engrish title that could get them in legal trouble in the Western hemisphere), and haven't seen it pop up anywhere, it seems really rare. If you know anywhere I could find it, a link would be much appreciated.

I know I saw it somewhere for fairly cheap loose recently (I got mine CIB for ~$50 almost a year ago).  I searched a few of the main sites a moment ago and I may not have searched the right one that I saw it on or it sold already.  It is rather rare I believe.

EDIT:  The character in the game is dressed like Dio in his Holy Diver music video, though the actual character name is Ranay I believe, which is rather close to "Ronnie."  It seems obvious that the character is based in Dio.  Dio is my second favorite artist, so I was rather thrilled to discover this game, and the Castlevania look only added to it.

SMB2j...Get it.  Love it.  Don't spend $250 on a cart.  Get the disk for about $15

/\  And when he gets the disk system he can get Doki Doki Panic too...  Otherwise, the SMB2j cart doesn't cost anywhere near $250 unless it is one of those special large ones apparently (though I own both now  ;D...got SMB2j disk coming in the mail with SMB1 on the other side).  Gonna still keep the cart since my pirate has level select.

Rising stuff has 2 Holy Diver games... $45 for one CIB and $19 for a loose cart: https://www.risingstuff.com/store/famicom-holy-diver-game-only-p-2502.html?osCsid=mh826doota9l660mumek1cmfb1

I'm not sure what shipping costs are, but those are fair prices.

Very pricey, imo. But I bought something there to support them. Our retro game stores have too quickly died out in America.

Haha yeah, I thought they were pricey, but then I compared their prices to a few pawn shops in the University District and they seemed fairly reasonable by comparison. At any rate, they're usually a last resort if I can't find what I'm looking for on ebay or amazon marketplace.

Hahaha omg, yeah, if you shop at Pink Godzilla or Al's you are getting ripped off big time. So long as you know the prices of everything you can once in awhile get good deals, but usually it's better to buy online. I use risingstuff.com almost exclusively, tho famicomshop.com has good deals at times and they're shipping is usually cheaper since they're in the US. As far as showing support to import stores... Pink Godzilla recently expanded, they seem to be doing just fine w/o my money. Once in awhile they have a deal (or a price that's compare to online), and those are the times I buy from them. But 9 times out of 10 they are a LOT more expensive than online.

"They're pretty great. A little pricey..."

They're ok. For someplace halfway local, they're seletion of imports isn't too bad. A little pricey? That is not how I would put it. I like the place, but do selective shopping there, and only on rarer occasions. Mosts stuff there is priced at more of a collector premium, so judicious purchasing is required.

I actually consider Japan Game Stock to be a great store to get stuff but you got to have the money to afford it because their shipping fees can murder you if you live in America.

That being said, my dad did get good deals out of them, including one of the last boxed famicoms they had in the past christmas season. If you can get a good deal out of them, it's great because of the variety and quantity of the stuff they have is great.
