So, many Famicoms...

Hello everyone. I have my share of NES knowledge but, when it comes to Famicom, I am a total n00b. Here's my question:

I am looking for a Famicom, but I'm not sure which one I should get. I've broken it down to either a regular Famicom w/ AV modification, a knock-off (one of those ones that look exactly like the system but has a different colour scheme and name), or a plain old, untouched model. I've ruled out the AV Famicom, Twin Famicom, and NEX because I just don't have the money and I dislike the NEX's NOAC design. So, which is the best way to go? Oh, and do the knock-offs use the NOAC design? Thanks.

Doc

My opinion is that you should go for the regular Famicom. You have the chance of the knock-off of not working...

And welcome aboard.

Thanks. One more quick little bit...

I've been scouring eBay, and this is what I've come up with:

"http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250023202621&fromMakeTrack=true"; This should shoot throught the roof and shipping is breakin my balls
Or
"http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160024823929&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=006"; However, your warning about pirated goods makes me reconsider.

One? The other? Neither? What do you guys think?

Doc

That is one swank looking pirate. :)

Once, I saw one that looked JUST LIKE the Famicom with no logos...I was shocked!

If given those two choices, I'd go for the pirate, because the shipping in the first auction is a rip-off.

nes_pwnerer

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Hey, do you know WHY people charge so much for shipping? Partially it's because people the most they can get outta you, but also because that the sellers have to pay a certain percentage of their final selling price to eBay, so what they do is just hide it in the shipping costs. eBay hates it when people do this, but then again, people are still selling protos and demos long after they have forbade them, so I don't think they're going to do anything about it.

Doc

I hear that percentage is rising and rising, too...it's soon going to become a damn joke to even use it to sell anything, anymore...

JC

Damn, I've been watching both of those very closely. I think the first one with the high shipping would be a great steal for me, because i don't want the Famicom, just the games, so I'd be able to resell the Famicom. And that Russian pirate is awesome. That seller's had some great stuff the past couple of days. I snagged myself a multi-cart with a bunch of hacks, like the teletubbies inserted for Mario characters in Super Mario Bros. More on that one when I get it.

I'd go with a regular Famicom myself. It's the most reliable. You'd have a tough time with the pirate -- look at the AC adaptor. You'd need a new one that can pull the proper juice, or you'd need a prong converter.

Doc

TELETUBBIES?! Do an article and pics, as soon as you can!

JC

Yeah it's also got, I think Toy Story characters inserted into another game, and then the Ninja Turtles inserted into DK or something like that. I'll know when I get it. The description wasn't clear, but the seller guaranteed it'll have cool hacks like that, plus about 70 other games (like you're standard multi-cart).

Doc

That just kicks so much ass!

nes_pwnerer

:-\Ack! Now I've become torn again! Meh, I guess I'll go for the pirate; the real deal looks like I'd be too much for me with the box 'n all those games. I'll just pick up a loose one later...

Btw, do the pirate use NOAC or something else?

Super Teletuby Bros.? LOL! That'd be a sight for sore eyes!

Doc

It'd definitely be an interesting sight, for sure.

QuoteBtw, do the pirate use NOAC or something else?[/quote[

NOAC= ?

JC

How much are you looking to pay for a Famicom?

nes_pwnerer

To FamicomJL:
NOAC is... ah screw it; I'm too lazy: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES-on-a-chip";. The stuff it says about glitches inaccurate colours, sounds, etc. has been true for me in the past (anyone heard of Yobo? Yeah i regret that purchase too...)

To JC: Like I said above, I am the Famicom n00b, so I'm not really sure on the value. I suppose it would depend on things like condition n' all like all other classic items, but I really don't have an idea.

And I'm pretty sure trying to give you an estimate from eBay would result in you telling me off  :P

Doc

Ahhhh, I get it now, thanks. :D
