So, many Famicoms...

That's what I remember. When I first got into NES, I saw those things and $100 was the regular going price. If they're so rare, why is there always at least one on eBay 24/7? Think about that  :)

JC

I don't think a lot of what we see in the Famicom list on eBay is all that rare...in Japan. Here, it's a little more rare. And the Twin Famicoms are the combinatin of Famicom/FDS. If you think about the price that the Famicom and FDS actually go for -- which is over $100 if you buy both, then the Twin Famicom isn't all that unreasonable.

nes_pwnerer

ToucheĀ  ::)

Then I guess it all really depends on wheather or not you're going to play disk system games. For me: umm... maybe; I mean, buying anything FDS-related is expensive and comes with huge risks that really throw functionality into question. The seller could test it, see that it works, arrive on my doorstep, and then go caput. The whole idea seems pretty shaky.

JC

I haven't purchased anything FDS yet, including the system. I'm leery of it, too. I like the certainty of having a solid board in my cart, instead of a flimsy whatever it is in a disk. Plus, you can get some, if not all, of the good FDS games on cart, though often as pirates. But I love pirate carts!

nes_pwnerer

Indeed, pirates are rather fantastic. Who else could stick up to 80 games onto one tiny cart or put whole Famicoms into N64 controllers or Nomad and GBA lookalikes?

Then again, I live for that feeling you get when a friend comes over, looks at whatever crazy thing you got set up and say "What the hell is that thing?". I've heard that many times about my Virtual Boy and even gotten this comment from people looking at my Genesis with its 32X on top of it! Some people are so...not out-of-the-loop.

To JC:
After much deliberation, I'll probably hit up that Famicom w/ the games that I posted earlier (I'll have to make some sacrifices, but it'll be worth it.). Sorry dude, but not only will this get me a BOXED bad boy, but I'll have some games to boot. It'll probably end up shooting out of my range rather quickly , but it's worth a try, right?

I won't neccessarily get it...all I'm saying is watch outĀ  ;D

TELETUBBIES?! Do an article and pics, as soon as you can!

Damn. I got screwed. That multi-cart with the cool hacks never came. Got lost in the pipeline somewhere between the seller's hands to my hands. I'm damn bitchy right now. >:(

nes_pwnerer

Man, that blows. Did you get your money back?

JC

No I didn't get my money back.

I didn't think it was fair to the seller to request a refund, because I really trust the seller and I don't think he did anything wrong. He says he shipped it out, and I believe him. You remember...it's the Texan who was also selling that Russian Famicom. He promised to give me a good deal on the Russian Famicom as a way of putting the missing cart behind us. :)

nes_pwnerer

Oh well that's cool.

I'm pretty sure i went overboard, but oh well; I think its worth it.

JC

Ah nice! That's about $15 more than I would have paid, but it's in such nice condition. I can't get over how white it is. I hope it works out ok. You'll have to tell us if the 190 in 1 is any good. Maybe it'll have some cool games on it -- I hope not too many repeats, though most with more than 100 games have repeats. Sometimes the pirate dudes make the repeats fun, hacking the speed of the repeats or what have you.

nes_pwnerer

Yeah, I'll totally keep you guys posted. I'd be rather angry if it didn't work, but if the guy accidentally fried the thing, wouldn't it be kinda obvious to him if he broke it? Like the system smoking or something?

Anywho, I may have payed a bit too much, but you know how you get when really want something and get goo-goo eyed  :o Also, the whole turing yellow thing, is that like with the SNES where it's a result of cheap plastic corroding? How does it happen?

JC

Two good questions and I can't answer either with any certainty. I think if he fried it, it would have gone pop! and then died. Not really dramatic like with smoke and flames and fire engines.

And the yellow, as far as I know, is just from light. I keep mine stored away and only pull it out to play. Obviously, the more sunlight, the worse it is. So direct sunlight is a huge no, no. But a little sunlight bouncing off white walls isn't as bad. Again, I don't know for sure how it's caused or what amount of sunlight it would take to yellow it.

nes_pwnerer

Sunlight...  :o I'm speechless...

Anyway, I don't mean the FC would burn his house down or anything. I just mean it might be like the pirate console on NESPlayer that looks like a SNES. The guy tested it out and smoke billowed out of the system.

JC

Yeah, I was exaggerating for the fun of it. But I guess a little smoke is possible when a system gets fried. :)
