...people who insist LOTR is better than Star Wars annoy me.  Especially when they can't explain why.

I think LOTR is better than Star Wars. I just like the setting and the story more.  I don't see why they are often compared, they are completely different movies. It's like arguing over Pokemon and Indiana Jones. :p
That's just my opinion.

I think they get compared just because they're a trilogy, have a bunch of loyal geek fans and they're both quite epic.

I think it often comes down to setting and story, I find aliens and machines more exciting and involving than dwarves and grassy hills
