I can understand your point of view JC and Kuvio, and don't get me wrong, I absolutely love 8-bit gaming and espically the 8-bit rockman games. My stance is that if I wanted feelings of nostalgia, I'd play either the original Famicom games, the NES versions, or Megaman Anniversary Collection for Gamecube PS2 and Xbox (and yes, I own every version I just mentioned!)

My feeling on the matter is that I want a new game, not nosalgia. If I wanted a new game AND nostalgia, I'd play a rom hack.

Kuvio

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from.

I argee with JC

I hope someone hack MM9 on a NES cart..What Mappers does the MM series have

When I heard this news, I thought it was a Whind - up  >:(.  However, it is true  ;D.  I'd rather have it as cart than a download!!!
Plant you, feed you, grow you like a flower, like NINTENDO now you're playing with power!!

Do you guys really think that they have programmed this new MM game as if it were a new Famicom game, i.e. in 6502?

I would have thought that it's a cross platform engine, probably written in c++.

I'd therefore be surprised if it was possible to put this onto a cart.

satoshi_matrix

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Personally though, I doubt it. But then again, this is Capcom we're talking about...

Joppers

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a cart release, legit or not :)

Maybe I should finally get round to programming some 6502 myself, lol :)

From Gamasutra:

Quote
GS:Essentially, this game isn't actually a Famicom game. If it were burned to a cartridge, it wouldn't actually run on a Famicom. It is a duplication of the Famicom capabilities, but within a modern game engine and technology.

HT: Well, when you put it that way... (laughter) This couldn't fit on a Famicom cartridge. It's too big. It's too much for that. It's really emulating the old style of games. But we're hoping that when people play, they feel the same nostalgia that they have when they play the original games.

So much for a repro cart version  :-\

satoshi_matrix

Hm. Even still, it could be possible for ROM hackers to duplicate the game and then augmenting the RAM tenfold in the same manner that Super Demo World augments the RAM of Super Mario World. This might be playable on emulators and dev carts, but not regular carts from the sounds of it.

Even still, this is awesome.

It's out today!  I'm downloading it as soon as I get home.   ;D

1000 Wii points (US $10 + tax).

They also announced some DLC.  For 200 additional Wii points, you can add the ability to play as Protoman.  Gameplay mechanics are a little different (has a shield, some kind of dash attack, charge shot).  I think I'll be keeping those $2, though.

I've downloaded it and will be getting again next week when it hits the 360. I don't own a classic controller, and its for some bazarre reason not compatible with a Gamecube controller. I got it to be an early bird, but I think I'll prefer playing it with the 360 controller or hell, even the Hori EX2.

UglyJoe

Just beat one of the stages.  Yeah, it plays just like the other Rockman games.  But!  No slide or charge shot (unless you unlock those later).  I may need to get a classic controller, though.  The d-pad is too small and the 1 + 2 buttons are a little too far apart (it's harder to do that a-to-b button slide).

Then again, the classic controller (which is just a plastic shell, really) costs twice as much as the game  :-\
