The reason it might not work in the FC version is that it may just be a port of the NES version.

Okay, so your saying that the NES and FC versions are different...right? Because the mic works in the FC version, and it doesn't on the NES version.

I actually meant the cart FC version. It lacks mic support, so it might be the same program as the NES cart version.

OK, you guys are confusing the hell out of me...

Also, I remember reading an article a long time ago about this; it didn't work on either of the grey or gold NES games. For a while the manual info was thought to be just lazy translating by Nintendo. They just didn't double check and left it in there.
