If you were to plug an NES Zelda 1 in a Famicom, will the microphones still work?

Now you're playing with Power

I'm pretty sure it was removed from the cart release. In fact I'm not even sure if the Famicom cart release of Zelda still had this function in it b/c that wasn't released until 1994, after the AV Fami had come out (which doesn't include a microphone in the second controller). I could be wrong about that tho.

I have a feeling its in the NES version, because the manual even mentions something about  them hating noise.

UglyJoe

From a programming perspective, they wouldn't have had any reason for removing it from the game.

Someone has to try it now and see whether or not it works.

I'm pretty sure someone on the forum tried that not too long ago (the FC cart version on the non-av FC) and the mic still worked.  (edit: found it: here)

Wow. Well in that case, the microphone thing might actually work w/ the NES cart.

Well I just tried it, and it doesn't seem to work. :-\
I used a converter and used the gold version of the NES cart. I tried yelling, blowing, and tapping the mic, but nothing. Would the grey version of the cart be any different?

No, none of the gameplay was changed between the grey and gold carts.  Did you try defeating Pol's Voice with it?

yeah, I went to level 5 in the room to the left of the entrance. It doesn't do anything...

Hmm...well...
This is weird..they shouldn't have changed the programming.  And even then, it should be in the gold carts instead of the grey carts, since they were made first...

No one has tested the gray cart yet.  I.heart.yuna tested the FC cart, and vgthing tested the gold NES cart.

nintendodork

Oh, I thought IHY tested the grey cart.  I only have both carts in gold, so I can't test it either.  I think FamicomFreak told me he had a grey one.  We'll have to ask him.  But the gold carts did come out first right?  So if it didn't work in the gold cart, then why would it work in the later release?  And Nintendo may of just taken it out when they remixed the music :-\

I can't imagine they added it back in for the gray cart release, either.  I'd be surprised if there's any differences between the two versions.

nintendodork

Nintendo already changed that game enough.  Any FDS game that goes over to a NES release is heavily redesigned in terms of programming, so I'm sure they just took it out when they changed around the save features and language.

well, which came out first, the FC cart, or the NES one? if it was FC first, it is possible that Nintendo just used the same programming of the FC version for the NES. I guess it could also be that they used the program from the NES cart for the FC one, and that's why the mic won't work with the cart FC version. confusing huh? :D
