jbholio, you've got this one listed as Hacker International and Sachen, but is it also Bullet-Proof Software?

You're likely right that the cart and box are from different releases, but I want to know what's up with the BPS on the box. That cart's got the Hacker wings.

jbholio

The game came with that box.  I really don't know why BPS copyrights appear on the box as this is a Sachen game.  BPS Tetris sucks because of the crappy controls.  There are 2 different boxes for Hacker's Pyramid.  If you look at the artwork of the box there is a big mouth with pyramid pieces falling.  The same artwork is from the label of the Sachen "adult" release.

The other box is different.  Here is a pic:

Getting nude pics is almost impossible.  20 lines have to be completed just to get the 1st pic.

JC

So that makes sense. The carts and boxes in the picks I posted and the ones you posted need to be switched around. But what a mystery this BPS is! I hope you find something out about why it's shown on the box. Perhaps there's a BPS Pyramid?

jbholio

I've never heard of a BPS Pyramid before but you never know.  A precision about Hacker.  Not all of their games come with the wings on the sides.  Early Hacker carts are square and Metal Fighter comes in a "pirate" type of case.  Hacker started by buying games from Sachen (Metal Fighter, Galactic Crusader, Mahjong Trap, Mahjong World, Pyramid).  They renamed some of the games.  They later developed their own games and bought some from other unlicensed developers such as Color Dreams, C&E and Idea-Tek.  If only I could get Miss Peach World  >:(

JC

Miss Peach World looks to have some of the best 8-bit porn, from all the gawking I've done at your site.

And I knew that early release Hackers didn't have wing-tips and that later one's did. But was Hacker the only company you know of to have winged carts?

Yes, Hacker is the only company to use this type of plastic case for their famicom games.  You probably noticed that Hacker put the price (7,800 Y) on the box.  This expensive price could explain why they are so hard to find even in Japan.  My contact in Japan also told me that Hacker games were only sold in few stores because Nintendo would not let big retail video game store to sell them.  Hacker was the only unlicensed publisher in Japan.  Hacker games were released in this order:

Metal Fighter 1989
Papillon Gals 1989
Mahjong Trap 1990
Mahjang Summit 1990
AV Poker 1990
Pyramid 1990
AV Hanafuda Club 1990
Idol Shisen Mahjang 1990
Mahjang Companion 1990
AV Pachi Slot 1991
Soap Panic 1991
AV Soccer 1991
AV Strip Mahjong 1991
AV Dragon Mahjang 1991
Miss Peach World 1991
AV Pachinko Fever 1991
Hanafuda Yuukyou Den - Nagarebana Oryuu 1991

From what I've seen and read, Hackers don't sell too good, even though they're hard to find. I've seen several CIB Hackers up for auction that don't even go for more than $75. I didn't expect that. What kind of prices do you think they're worth, generally? I imagine each one would be priced differently.

Oh and I saw a Miss Peach World for sale but as part of a lot. That lot was priced at over $5,000. :o That's an amazingly high price, but it had some amazingly rare stuff in it.

jbholio

I'm really not sure about prices.  My 7 Hacker games (cart only) were bought by a friend in Japan.  6 of them came from the same store.  They were AV Hanafuda Club, AV Pachi Slot, AV Poker, AV Strip Mahjong, Mahjang Companion and Mahjang Summit.  The guy originally wanted 4,000Y for each game but since my friend bought 6 games (and some other stuff) he lowered the price to 3,000Y.  The other game (Idol Shisen Mahjang) cost me 3,980Y and is from a different store.  My friend is a huge famicom collector and he said all Hacker games are hard to find except AV Hanafuda Club.  He also told me Miss Peach World is almost impossible to find and can sell for over 20,000Y.

I'll keep any eye out for that Miss Peach World -- 20000yen seems like more than I'd expect, since I've never heard of or seen a Famicom game sell for that much.

In the meantime, I've got another question:

[Removed]

That's Metal Fighter. We've got it on the games list as Sachen. The back of this box says something different. Is it possible that there are two releases, or is the name there on the box a co-distributor or something?

michaelthegreat

Metal Fighter is definately a sachen.  Remember that sachen games were sold by most of the US unlicensed companies.  Why would it be any different in Japan?  I'm sure the rights to a sachen game were pretty cheap with how far from amazing most of the games were!

JC

So you're saying it's possible it was released by Kinema Music Co. Ltd. as well as by Sachen?

Haven't two companies worked on games in the U.S. before? Wouldn't be surprised.

jbholio

The pic you got is the back of the box of the Hacker International version.  I'm not sure if there are nude pics in the game however.  It's the first Hacker title.  At first, maybe they were not planning to have nudity in their games and later changed because it made sales increase.  The Kinema music logo (KM) also appears on the title screen of Metal Fighter in the Funblaster Pak released by HES in Australia.

JC

So, where is the game identified as Hacker? On the cart?
