Patman, just take some time and relect on both of them, and then pick one. It was hard for a lot of us I'm sure that participated in this poll.

I voted Famicom!

LONG LIVE 8-BIT!!!!

The 8-BIT FAMICOM regins supreme in most cases, but I believe (like I voted and stated earlier) that the SFC just went beyond the beyond in terms of "Bad Assery" is all.  Thus I'm a bit surprised to see the 8-Bit older brother to the Super Fami win over (slightly) .
Gaming peaked in the 8-Bit & 16-Bit eras...
all else is just rehashes and insanity passing
itself off as "gaming."

My God, how the Wii is not far and above these is beyond me, considering it can play ALL the titles of these systems on it's own!

PLUS all the wiiware, original wii games and now even gamecube remixes.

Saying that, I think the styling of the super famicom is far andf above my favourite, that ugly American SNES is awful, in England we were lucky enough to get the Super Famicom casing (just rebadged as a Super Nintendo and albeit @ 50hz..) !

I also think DS and gameboy should be on this list, handhelds are consoles all the same.
But emulation isn't original hardware.  This is a poll for systems and games for those systems.  Not downloadable or emulated stuff...that would make it unfair, since none of the others can do that due to technology limitations.

Also, where would the Virtual Boy stand on this? :P  It has an AC adapter, but it can also be played with batteries...and in the car...but it can't fit in your pocket.
No witty comments please ;)

I voted for the N64 even though I really like them all...except for the gamecube. Sorry, but that has to be one of the worst consoles Nintendo has ever released. Yes, there are some good games like Zelda WindWaker and Super Smash Bros. Melee, but most of the other games for it sucked. Nintendo made a mistake of not making enough of their own games for the console and too many random 3rd party games were made and released for it. It didn't have a DVD player like the PS2 and Xbox did, and only played the games and nothing else. And most of the games made for it were a lot shorter than the old N64 games which would take weeks, even months to complete.

I don't see that as a bad thing. It's like including a clock in almost every appliance under the sun. If it doesn't need timekeeping to work correctly, I don't see the point. If I want to watch a DVD, I'll use a DVD player.

But that's not a Nintendo GameCube.

...and you said 'no witty comments please' ::)

nintendodork

It's licensed by Nintendo, it looks like a Gamecube, and it plays Gamecube games...

When I said witty comments, I meant something like "The FDS uses batteries, but it isn't portable either."

Also, I've gotta pipe up here here and disagree with dork on this 'original hardware' comment - what's so great about original hardware anyway?  If you look at the N64 titles on the wii virtual console, they're way better than the counterpart originals.  If you look at the super mario collection on SFC (aka super mario all stars in west) then that, apart from SMB1 and lost levels is way nicer.  A definite improvement.

You wouldn't insist on watching an 80s movie on a crap tv, so what's the big deal?  I'm especially confused considering some are too young to get actual nostalgia anyway, so even playing on the old controllers is debatable.  Add in that alot of people grant the dog bone the best controller, which is basicaly an SFC controller minus 4 buttons.

To say it's 'not fair' is irrelevant, just as it's 'not fair' to compare 2D to 3D, or even 8-bit to 16-bit.  In today's day and age emulation is top notch and very, very accurate (I'd even say the emulation scene find improvements) so I strongly disagree with this.  The megaman games' devs would have turned sprite flicker off if they could, it's simply a visual flaw as a result of limitations, their orginal intention was to negate it (read interviews with Keiji!).

If you're doing a poll on actual games, make it a poll about games on each respective format. To which I say the NES reigns supreme.  If it's systems in general then the Wii (IMO), if it's "which has my 'affection' it would be (for me) the Super Famicom - each is different.

On it's stand.

If you try playing VB in the car, the display will break.  The Virtual Boy's got moving parts inside, you know.

How are N64 titles better on the Wii?  As far as I've seen, they're the same...plus, it's not original hardware

It's a little different with TVs and movies, because you are not apart of it in any way, other than watching it.  With a game, you are inputting commands that affect the outcome.  It's much better on original hardware because it lets you know that this was how it was played back in the day.

I am too young to experience nostalgia on the NES/SNES, but I know enough about the consoles that makes me want to play the games on the original hardware because the controllers are so much different, I'll give an exception to the SFC because of the Wii's classic controller design.  Playing a NES game on the Wii is just fucking weird.  I've been playing the NES since I've had my N64, which has been a big portion of my life; so now that I'm so used to the NES controller, it feels weird playing it with a different controller, and I do worse on it.  You expect a certain shape of a controller in your hand when you see a NES game on the screen..but when you feel that it's an entire different shape, it messes (me, at least) up completely.  I can do so much better on SMB2j on the Famicom than the Wii.  I don't know how to explain it very well, but I think a lot of people on this forum know what I'm talking about.

Sorry if that sounded mean at all. :-[

I have.  I'll admit it's not the best, but all of my family's cars drive pretty well, so it's not too bumpy when I play.  It's actually quite fun playing some VB games while you're moving...it feels....cool :P

That Panasonic chrome 'Cube is pretty cool... only seen a couple in real life...
I liked the Gamecube for a handful of games... but the chrome cube is what it SHOULD have been. Like the Sharp Twin Famicom, this thing was an officially licensed piece of gear.

Nintendodork: I did not include the virtual boy because it is just a fail, so I felt it was best to leave it out, I don't know anyone that enjoys playing a vr32 anyway.

LET and Nintendodork: both of your points are valid about the downloadable stuff with the wii but dork understood the point of the poll. From what I've seen, most of the wiiware games that come from games from previous systems are the same as when they were originally released. Other wiiware games are exclusive for the wii. I would personally rather play Ocarina of Time or Mario 64 on my Nintendo 64 before the emulator type stuff that is available. It's just the way to feel like you are a kid again in the late 90's. And thank you dork for clarifying the point I was also going to clarify in your later poll.
