Do you guys keep the boxes to your games? For example, I have a bunch of GBA games, and I broke the boxes down and tossed them away, seeing that I don't have much room or need for them. What do you guys do?

JC

Anyone who knows my collecting habits knows that I hate boxes. Absolutely hate them. To me, they are 100% useless. They do nothing other than provides a nice looking shell for the good stuff inside. Some might argue that the box protects the contents. Well, true, if you use it for that. But most of the collectors I know who keep their boxes don't use them to protect the contents. They have to buy protectors to protect the boxes! It's ridiculous. To me, as a gamer, the boxes have no value. They get in the way. So, when it comes to buying older games, I avoid buying games that come with boxes, out of respect for those who collect them. And when it comes to newer games...well, I don't buy newer games. I can tell you my younger brother, who is into the newer stuff, protects his boxes like they were more precious than the games themselves. Anyway, I think it's great that you just toss them out, SSNintendo. That's what we all should do -- heap 'em into a big pile and light 'em up.

Yeah, you're right. My GBA boxes take up space that can be used for something else.. My DS games, however, need their case considering the size of the carts.

Good point. When I was little, I always would lose my Gameboy games because they were so small. Maybe if I had kept them in the box, I wouldn't have had to scower behind my bed, under heaps of toy, and between couch cushions to find them!

I have this one Gameboy Advance carrying case that I got from Wal-Mart sometime ago to put my GBA and Gameboy games in. Once that gets full, I might have to look for something else though.

The only boxes I ever save are NES/SNES boxes. GBA boxes are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tossed away here, because they'll only become a nuisance. Good to see others have that habit too. :)

I'm the counerpart of JC it seems. ;)
I love boxes. I adore them. I guess I have a box "fetish". :P

Boxes, especially of old games (Famicom, SFC,...) have a special flair I would not want to miss.
If possible I always try to get games complete in the box. If games are cart only I only buy it if I really like the game. On the other hand, I have already bought games just for the sake of owning the beautiful box. ;D

My dream is having a complete Famicom collection with all games in box... 8)

That's a cool dream, manuel. You know, you sound a lot like my older brother (I'm making good use of family in this thread). I like to download my music, but my brother insists on buying the CDs because he has to have the lyric book art and the back CD cover art, including the disc art. I don't see the point, because to me it's about what's on the disc, not what's outside of it. Same with the games.

Doc

I only keep NES and SNES boxes...The GBA ones aren't as cheesy. ;D

Ya gotta have the box and manual!  It's a part of the whole experience of owning and knowing the game as a whole package.  To me, just having the cart is another step towards just playing the ROM.  You could have a nice famicom/nes copy usb controller and get basically the same gameplay with an emulator.  I'm not saying that they are the same, a ROM and just a cart, cause they aren't at all but the cart only is just a step towards the complete game experience.  And plus a collection of loose carts lying in a box just looks cheap ;)

I keep all of my boxes.  I even have my SNES with "Donkey Kong Country" pack in box .
I also keep all of the Styrofoam and plastic bags and ties.  If I wanted, I could re-pack my N64, and It would look just like a new system.  I even have the sticky  circles that they use to seal the ends of the boxes!  I always carefully peel them off as to not tear the printed image on the box.

Yes,  I keep my GameBoy advance boxes.  I just store them all  In a closet. with all of my other ones.
I am currently working on a homepage...  details to follow.

Maybe that's a smart thing to do if you plan on reselling the stuff someday down the road. But you've gotta keep this stuff looking perfect. That's the advice my grandmother always gives me...keep those little knick-knacks that you think aren't worth much now, because in 20 or 50 years, you'll have stuff other people will have thrown out. And there always will be CIB collectors, unfortunately. My grandmother always has this story about her first TV, which was black and white. You could go to a store and buy a cover screen of sorts that you'd attach over the TV screen and it would give the black and white some vibrancy, almost like color. She said she would have held onto that because you don't see them anymore and it'd be worth something. I don't know if it would, but you get her point.

As for me...I maintain the burn-the-box theory of game collecting. Boxes just skyrocket the price.

and skyrocket your experience!!

and actually so maybe you spend $20 or $30 on the complete game but you go and spend $40 or $50 on the latest new or used ps/xbox game.  To me a game is a game and I like older games more than newer ones so why wouldn't I spend $30 on one I like when a newer one that I don't like as much costs $50.  Sure it's old and it will lose value on a generic market but in my head it's worth every much it's original cost.
