Is the famicom disk system compatible with pirate NOACs?

I can't fit my ram adapter in my clunky super joy 3, so I was wondering if any of you have tried using a FDS on a more normal famiclone?

Some of them work, some of them don't. My Funstation III works fine, while my GSS clone produces error 27 no matter what disk you put in. Also some really really cheap Famiclones have a crappy transistor circuit instead of a 7805 voltage regulator. Plugging the RAM Adapter into these will likely blow out the makeshift regulator because of the increased power consumption of the RAM cart vs a normal game cartridge.

How did you fit the ram adapter inside the funstation? Did you disassemble it?

How big are the insides?  I'm looking to cram a pirate unit inside a FDS to create my own famicom twin system.
