...Then finding a game cartridge that has been missing for nine years. Today I was looking for my deck of cards, ripping up shelves and what not, when I found a cartridge I have not seen in a very very long time. It was the GBA version of DOOM, one of my favorite classic FPS games.

So nice to see it again, as they are sorta expensive on ebay and I wouldn't have wanted to fork up the cash for a new copy.

To give this thread a little luster, I ask you gentlemen if you've ever discovered a long lost item you've been searching years for?

A Few years ago, in my garage, i found the actual game boy color and game boy advance I had as a little kid. These are the ones I use today. :)
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

When I moved to London my Dad said a few months later "I found a machine of yours in the garage"
I had no idea what i was - so I was ecstatic to see it was not only a fully boxed NES, but the exact same NES I played on as a kid - my best friend's brother's NES that we used to play NES games on as soon as they came out.  I remember he gave it to me once before I was into 8 bit gaming and I must have forgotten about it.

It has lots of stains and doesn't always work perfectly but it's nice that way, like seeing your girlfriend with no make up on and realising you love her all the more that way.

- oh MS DOS if I'd have known I'd've sent you my DOOM, I don't really play it and it's a real version not the GBA pirates you see on ebay.

How can you tell those were pirates?

That's cool. I put GBA Doom on my flashcart recently because of the green-to-red blood fix patch that was recently released. Still, Doom GBA is only a so-so port. The best version is DoomX on a homebrew enabled Xbox 1. Not only does it control perfectly, it also uses higher quality textures than the original and plays in 720p.

You can tell pirate GBA carts a mile off.  Biggest clue is that there's no box, even bigger if the seller has other GBA games with no box, even bigger if they're titles like Pokemon, Castlevania, other rare stuff (like DOOM) and a definite if the sales history shows the same titles again and again.  I've not seen one this obvious before though:

You can't always tell from a slightly blurred photo, but pirate carts have softer plastic, less crisp moulds and the labels are often of slightly lower print quality.  Unfortunately, most loose GBA games on ebay are chinese pirates amde by the same companies that still make famicom pirates and glob tops.

What's this green to red blood patch?  That's in the options in my cart - and I know it's not a pirate because I remember buying it from the store with my first GBA when they came out.

That's odd... Can you take a picture? I did get my doom cartridge used/loose at gamestop, but that was in 2002... I'm pretty sure it's not a pirate. Perhaps it's because you have the European version.

Here's what I got...

I owe you an apology - not only is there no option, but there's friggin' green blood!  Not even sure how I managed to get this wrong from memory, maybe it's because I played too much Doom 2 and Mortal Kombat on PC  (which did have that option).

No problem. Mine has that green blood as well, but whoever edited the blood sprites did a poor job. I don't know if it's a pallet problem, but when you get shot, the center of the blood sprites are dark red, while the rest of the blood is shades of green. Very odd.

Recently I was cleaning the top of this old chifferobe and I found this lighter I lost years ago.

It's an Imco Triplex from the late thirties, and it's cool as hell. I thought it had fallen out of my pocket or something and it was gone forever, so I was really excited when I found it.
