At my local gameshop, I can buy an NES FourScore for $15. I'm sort of considering it, but I have a question to those who already owns it. I notice it has turbo fire buttons. Once pressed, how fast are these buttons (very fast? mildly fast)? I'd also like to know more about it. I know that there were a number of four player football games that used it, but what else?

Was there a Famicom counterpart or was the four player thing US-only?

It's about as fast as an Advantage at full speed so it's pretty fast.

Other 4 player games? Hmm. RC Pro Am 2 and Super Off Road come to mind. I know there's others but they're not coming to mind.

Dunno if there's a Famicom equivalent but I do use this on an AV Famicom since the Japanese dogbones are rather short.

There are four-player games for Famicom, but I don't think Nintendo every released something like the Four Score. There's a third-party device like it but I don't recall the company/name.

Also, for the longest time, I thought it was called the FourPlay, which is a much better name.

Note that NES Play Action Football cannot be played with 3 players for some reason: 1,2, or 4 - that's it.

Hmm... not on there:

-Monopoly (doesn't need it)

& I think Anticipation

I dunno, I somehow think parents might have taken issue with the idea of providing their underage kids with Nintendo Fourplay  :D

There are other four-player games, but I think the ones on the list are the only ones that allow you to use up to four separate controllers (as opposed to passing off the controller to the next player when it's not your turn).

I think $15 is a bit pricey, actually - but then again, you wouldn't need to wait for shipping.

I'd sell you my Satellite for $10.

My FourScore arrived today.

I tried out the turbo fire rate to see how it compared to the MAX and Advantage. It's different from both. It actually is the same speed as the Hori Joycard on maximum.

I found this quite odd considering Hori is a third party company and the FourScore is a first party Nintendo product. Curious, I just opened mine up.

The PCB says right on it

HORI FPA-NES-02

A Hori product hidden as a Nintendo one!

This brings the question Of what "FPA" means. Maybe Four Player Adapter? Maybe this was the name of a possible Famicom version?

Someone was asking me about the famicom 4 player adapter and I realized I've never seen one before. What's it look like? Are the controllers attached like the famicom?

JC

I think it was made post-AV Famicom, so it's pretty similar to the way the NES Four Score works. I've seen it before and it definitely doesn't have wired in controllers.
