Hey, so JL tells me that those gold disks are very rare, like less than 50 ever made. Can anyone corroborate that fact? I ask because 10,000 of those Game and Watch tournament prizes were made. And I'm gonna do a page for the site about them all.

No real clue, and I think that will be hard to figure out without talking to someone in Japan.  And I wouldn't take an ebay auction for fact on that 10,000...  ;)

Well, I was doing some research and found the 10,000 figure on a site that had a bunch of pics of the Game & Watch, gold disks and stationary -- so I figure there's a little more legitimacy to the Game & Watch figure. But the question remains...

Someone had a webpage that said they made at least to 11,790.  I'm not sure, but I think two serial numbers were found that were that far apart...

Whatever these posters say may help if they were translated since 10,000 is mentioned twice on the last one:

I think it's possible that they gave away 10,000 in the contest, but that they made more (employee presents or who knows what for).

There are so many games more rare than 10,000 that I don't see what's so special about it.  I owned this game in an american version when I was little (may have been the YM-108, I don't know if there was a different American version or what not).  Yeah, it wasn't the special version, but it was $$15 bucks at k-mart... :)

It just seems to me that some things just float around about the game and watches and we really don't know much.  To me, this article exemplifies our real knowledge on the game and watches:

That's a great article. :) I appreciate the help!

What about the others -- the gold disks and stationary? Anyone?

Doc

Very tough subject...could even get a good article out of it. :)

That's so funny. :D

More to come -- and ha! if you think I'm giving up my source for this good stuff.

So lemme get this straight: You just picked up the FC equivalent of the gold NWC cart or the NTSC Stadium Events? Complete? And you seem pretty cheerful, so you didn't blow a fortune, did you?

I HATE MY LIFE!!!! *blows head off*

Well, in all honesty, we don't know much about it. It's rare, but how rare? We don't know. All I know is that it's got some link to the FDS Golf tournaments back in the '80s. Still more rare, I think, are the Famicom gold disks. The Famicom Super Mario Bros. Game and Watch and stationary set, also tournament prizes (as well as raffled off) are not very rare. Over 10,000 of each of those were made (yes, I finally confirmed that number). In my research, I haven't yet come across a number for how many gold disks or how many of the Punch-Out gold carts were made?

Also pretty rare are the Rekka Summer Carnival carts and the All Night Nippon disks.
