Strange. Feather says the language is updated. Yes, that's the same as the US version, featherpluck. But veal has these shots, which look like the gold Punch-Out. Hmm. Maybe there's a dump of the gold Punch-Out that's mislisted. ???

Those screenshots are from the Gold version.  Notice how Mike Tyson isn't listed in the guest stars

JC

Where did you get the screenshots, veal?

vealchop

I got them from the emulated version of Punch-Out! the Japanese version. For some weird reason, I can't seem to find a rom for the japanese version of "Mike Tysons" Punch-Out!, just the generic "Punch-Out!".

The thing is, as far as I understand, there was no Famicom Punch-Out, other than the gold version. There was only MTPO. I don't believe there was cause for Nintendo to re-release Punch-Out in Japan after Tyson's behavioral problems -- maybe because of a lack of popularity of the game in Japan, or an abundance of MTPOs or perhaps Nintendo never needed to cancel Tyson's contract for Famicom since Tyson's problems were likely only hot news in America.

If there was a Fami version of non-MT Punch Out, this guy would have it.  http://www.pbase.com/tomspunchout2/mtpo_collection&page=3

My theory is that only Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! was released besides the gold cart. Consider the fact that while Tyson is huge over in Japan, they probably would not care as much about what he does as much as we do.

There was another thread that had a picture of this and you were asking about it but I can't find it now so I made a new one.
Here's part of the ad for the Golf Japan Course Tournament.  That cool looking holder for the gold disk was the prize for places 1-100.  It has the gold game as well as a gold booklet of some sort that has your score in it and your name written on the front.  Then there was a total of 5000 regular gold disks given out as prizes. Places 101-500 won the disk outright (sucks to be 101!!).  Then the remaining 4600 were drawing prizes.  1000 drawn from places 501-3000, 1000 drawn from places 3001-10000, and 600 drawn from all scores that ended in a 2 or a 6.

So I guess the ultimate grail may be this grand prize since only 100 were given out and I've never seen one.  I would think people wouldn't sell them since they have their names on them.

JC

Thanks for that info. :) I've added it to the shrine. If you can give me any info on my previous post in this thread, it'd be a big help. If not, I'll have to track down manuel.

featherplucknfilms

So this is the guide book for Golf US Course.  The front cover (first picture) says "Winners technique".  Then the inside (second picture) says that the guy was the winner of the Japan Course Tournament and his score was way better than the second place person.  The book explains his winning techniques so you can play better on the US course.

I'm not sure if he actually wrote some of this book, but I kinda doubt it though, so I guess he is just endorsing it.

JC

So that means those special prizes given to the top 100 winners was done for both of the tournaments. I need to edit the shrine again. Thanks for the translation.

BTW: If you've got anything the shrine doesn't have, featherpluck, please take some pics and post them or send them to me, so I can add them. Much appreciated. :)

And featherpluck, notice that red colored foam in the poster pic you posted? Have you ever seen a Disk-kun with red foam?

featherplucknfilms

I think those pins or magets or whatever say "disk-kun" but its small and hard to read.  What are they from?

I'm not sure about the red foam, I never really paid attention to that.  I'll pay attention when I see one though now, anyone else?
