my guess is that it is used to connect multiple games to one famicom or some type of rf unit

I've got no idea. But it's neat that it slides into the slot on the Famicom where the controller goes.

kite200

Looks so damn cool, wish I knew what it was...

The consensus seems to be that it made your Famicom wireless, an antenna plugged into the back and would allow you to tune your TV to a certain channel and there's your Famicom signal.

Good wireless connection, or BAD wireless connection like the Acclaim Wireless controller for the NES?

The wireless Famicom unit is the Joy Radar MK2.  I'm sure exactly what the Multi-Box is but it seems  to me like its a battery pack and an RF box since those two wires plug into the Famicom and then theres the cable output but no other power input.

I thought that this device was an auto-switching RF modulator, much like our US NES RF modulator.
I am currently working on a homepage...  details to follow.

I have heard confirmation from elsewhere that it was indeed a wireless RF modulator.  Probably necessary because those fami controller cables are so short, kids were sitting 6" from the TV :)

The cord length is the only thing that I can not stand about the FAMICOM.  Wouldn't one of these be illegal in the states?  I am pretty sure that it would not carry an FCC license?  Of course, then again, neither does the FAMICOM. :)

Low wattage transmitters are generally OK by the FCC.

Sorry for reviving a very dead thread, but I found one of these while browsing Yahoo! Auction Japan. (Click image for link)
