I use Zorin OS...it's a Linux OS and is the best one I've ever tried :P

No viruses, no spyware and no crashes :P

What do you use ?

Hmm so far I only use windows 7 and windows 98 on my classic laptop. I'm working on another laptop that I want to add linux on! All I'm missing is the hard drive :)

GEOS on my C64  ;)

And a combination of XP and Vista, otherwise. Windows 7 doesn't work properly with my ambx lights despite claims to the contrary. I've also used Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu variants in the past. My Ubuntu laptop was stolen. I use my desktop for gaming and need proprietary software for several devices that I own (connection to my C64 floppy drive over USB, Camera (need the windows program for RAW development, ambx lights) which caused me to switch back from Linux. Unfortunately, every time I install Linux on my tablet/netbook (it's a convertible) and after I get the tablet input drivers and special drivers configured, within a day or two it just stops working. Like, it'll drop to a command line and refuse to run the GUI. Says the filesystem won't mount, despite it appearing with a LiveCD. So, I gave up. Maybe one day I'll return to it. I'm happy with XP on my tablet though. I mainly use it for taking notes with Microsoft OneNote and the odd web browse anyway.

Speaking of OneNote, does anyone who uses a tablet know if those notes can be converted and used in another note taking program? OneNote 2010 is okay but it sort of "jumps" on my tablet and it makes my stylus wobble when it shouldn't be wobbling. Never experienced this in OneNote 2003, and now that all my notes have been converted to the 2010 format and can't be brought back. The main problem I have is that I need access to all of my notes in one place, and I have far too many with OneNote already to simply start over. I guess this isn't the right place to ask, but you never know.  ;D

I recently get a MacBook Pro laptop, so I'm primarily using Mac OS X Snow Leopard.  I also have Parallels Desktop running Windows XP for those specific programs I use that aren't compatible with a Mac and don't have sufficient Mac versions.

Windows Vista.
No problems so far.

I wonder why people go railing on Vista. I think it's a quality OS. I use windows 7.
Sorry folks.

I'm not sure either. For me it works like a charm.

The laptop I have now has 64-bit Windows 7.  I like it.  My only problem I ever had with 64-bit Vista on my old computer was that one program just would not work.  Dunno why, but it works just fine on this one.

Are you sure you're not talking about Windows 7 Starter?  There's a big difference between it and Basic.

Windows XP prof. - the only solution. Got two Vista machines, but I hate that system, too much work to get it to work as I need to (speaking mainly about individual window displaying, the only way to set some settings is through registry change), too big differences between versions (bussines, home, prof... God, the disabled fullscreen for dos-based apps almost killed me in "bussines" - I think it's for employees to forget about playing old games in work). Slowly switching to Win7, looking better from the first look (user-set preferences actually stay set after restart ....:P on Vista), so I think this would be a good solution for the future.

My workplace practically LIVES on Windows XP Pro - no traces of Vista (thank goodness) or 7 (yet...?), and nearly every working program built in Excel 2003 from the ground up.  And I've actually seen piles of Windows 95 install discs stashed in a drawer somewhere at work...  :D

I'm actually pretty worried what would happen to us once Windows XP's extended support ends and newer versions of the programs we use actually REQUIRE us to upgrade to Vista or 7...  :o

I've never heard a good thing about starter. do yourself a favor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116773&cm_re=anytime_upgrade-_-32-116-773-_-Product

I have Windows 7 Home Prem. on my desktop, XP Pro on my laptop, and my netbook is in OS limbo (It's had gOS, WinFLP, Win 7. and I've tried Ubuntu. Perfect OS on a shitty computer will still result in a shitty experience. )

Windows 7 is a great OS, and XP still gets the job done pretty well. The thing about Vista is that it's a power-hungry beast. If you have Vista and it's slow, you just don't have the hardware. Ram upgrades go a long way.
