If it's useful and he doesn't have something like that, just go for it. Nothing better than something one can actually make good use of!

If he's into old cars get him a Hayne's repair manual for one of his cars. I've got two old cars (Dodge Shadow '90 and Porsche 924 '80) and the Hayne's repair manuals have really helped me out in maintaining them since they literally deconstruct and reassemble the cars in the books in a step-by-step mode. Even if he doesn't need one cause he knows pretty much what he is doing (which I assume he does) the books can still be helpful because they also contain the electrical mapouts of the various systems in the car (which in the case of old american cars can be really tricky!).

Just a thought.

Here is their website: http://www.haynes.com/

EDIT: Idea #2, if a Hayne's book is out of your price range. Get him a nice quality carwax along with a handwritten coupon for a free waxjob done by you :)

heres his list of cars: '80 ford pinto,71 dodge dart, 37 chevy master deluxe, 74 plymouth duster X2, the list goes on (these are all projects) so i dont think a haynes manual would help because were trying to sell them. the only project we are working on is my 71 maverick grabber. He did say he wanted my bro. to fix his four wheeler so.....
