Found a storage for my Famicom carts ... well, sort of ...

I stopped by a goodwill store today and found this:

It's an old cassette rack that spins around itself. This must have been THE coolest casette rack to have in your home in the early 80's. I know, I know it's hideous! But  I just had to take it home and try loading some of my famicom carts into it.

... And then it spins around ...

Like you can see I arranged them according to color and type of cartridge just for kicks!

This thing holds 40 Famicom carts at once! Despite it's ugliness I placed it in my living room next to my TV.

But alas, I stepped away for 3 minutes for a cigarette and when I returned it had been replaced by a lamp. I don't think my fiancee likes it too much  ::)

Down to the storage it goes.

Any thoughts on how I can minimize it's ugliness so it becomes living room acceptable by a girls standards?
:help:

Not really that ugly and someone should have at least asked you before removing it. ::)

Good idea.

I will be looking for something like that at a flea market.
Selling  Japanese games in Sweden since 2011 (as "japanspel").

it is totally awesome but have you tried to fit the weird carts that the famicom has, and this is my solution

Appleidog

No, I got it from Makoli from his sale, and just made a cover for it, it fits the cart perferctly the box, i need to buy some more off him,

I keep my important carts in Masterboxes but people who own bigger than the normal size cartridges are out of luck :D

I am back everyone :)

I only have two weird looking carts and since I don't play them that much I didn't want to have them on display in this godly sculpted cart holder.

I might have exaggerated a little in my first post, it was perfectly clear from the point I picked it up at the goodwill store that this object would not be allowed on display in the living room. Thats why I need your ideas of how to make this thing look 'fancy'.  :D

Those are some nice boxes, I should try and find some for my more precious games.

Why don't you ask your fiancée to find a way to make it look acceptable?

UglyJoe

I think it's the carts themselves that make it look tacky, and not so much the cassette carousel.  You would need to cover the whole thing up somehow, like having it in a cabinet behind a door (but make it a big enough cabinet, so that you can spin it without removing it).

senseiman

LMAO - I love the fact that your fiancee won't let you put that in the living room!   ;D

Actually, I think it looks quite nice. The orange color actually goes well with the Famicom carts.  You seem to have sort of a "white" color scheme going there with the living room decor though, so I can see how the fiancee might object to it!

I have but the only place she could see the rack being acceptable is back on the shelf at the good will store.  :D

This is actualy a pretty good idea, but I think it deafeats the purpose of the spinning rack. If I were to construct a cabinet in the first place I'd probably make it so that it just stores the Famicom carts on it's own.
The point about the carts themselves make it look tacky might be the root of the problem though  ;D

At least I have one of the shelves in the cupboard for my famiclone and dreamcast and believe it or not, half of one of those closets even holds games  :o
Good point about the color scheme. Maybe I can spray paint it to change it's color to white without making it look too cheesy. Although I think it would need something more than a color change.

I wish I had that rack its ten times more useful then mine!

I found a similar one on eBay:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=220742840428&index=20&nav=SEARCH&nid=82434459560

So your rack only holds 4 carts and doesn't spin?   :D

The E-bay rack is so similiar it might be an expansion for the one I have, mine looks like it was made to be connected with something on the top but that part of it is broken.

The Famicom holder I have lays flat and only holds 26 carts. So it is not very useful, but I hope to find a reasonably priced one similar to yours.

MarioMania

I have alot of these..I use it for my Genesis/Master System Carts

Kiddo

I've had one of these since forever.

It's an 80's casette box. I keep it next to the famiclone with the games I play most, every now and then I replace it's contents completely to get myself to play some new games.

It's really handy and holds 12 famicom carts. Wish I had more of these.
