I recently ordered MOTHER from Amazon, which has a battery backup in it. How do you replace the battery in a Famicom game? Also, what kind of battery does MOTHER use?

Here's a method for opening FC carts: http://youtu.be/LgCiAOmgeFc

Should be a CR2032 battery inside.

Sukikeri

Thanks, but then how do I replace the battery? The same way you would replace an NES battery?

Oh, and are the clamps necessary?

UglyJoe

Yeah, it should be the same as replacing an NES battery.

FC carts are different from NES carts in that the two pieces aren't held together with screws, but rather held together with plastic tabs.  If you try to simply yank the cart apart, it will open, but you'll snap the tabs and then it won't go back together.  That video shows the only technique that I know of to get them open without snapping the tabs.

So could I just use my hand and apply pressure as shown in the video?

Edit: Even though the video tells you to use the clamps.

UglyJoe

You could certainly try, but I don't know if you could get enough pressure in the right places.  You have to squeeze the one half of the cart while not squeezing the other, which would be pretty tricky since you don't have a lot of cart to grip on to.
