thanks guys. I had envisioned adding in the titlescreens as a kind of commentary on 8-bit art and it just kind of exploded. Each had to be cropped and have the background removed to look best for my blog's layout (click on the little mermaid titlescreen to see what I mean) and then they are enlarged 400%.All the screenshots are also at least 200% bigger to enhance and show detail.

by the way, if any of you guys want to follow me on twitter, I regularly post updates and keep my followers informed with the progress of my articles. Find me @bradykachan.

#59-50 is about 80% done and should be up by the end of the day.

Yes. Bio Force Ape is a flawed but extremely fun and crazy platformer that since the dumping of the prototype, has taken its rightful place in the top 100 games for the system, incomplete and all. Maybe in the future some talented rom hacker will take it upon themselves to create a few more levels to deepen the game? Until then though, it rests high up there at #93.

Alright guys. After a delay I tried to avoid, I've got the next part finally finished. Here's part 5, #59-50. I hope you enjoy! http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2011/09/01/top-100-nesfamicom-games-list-59-50-2/

Be sure to leave your comments. I love hearing from you guys.

Bio Force Ape just looked like it was trying to prove something with all that rapid scrolling & stuff... just so they could say they did it on an NES? :P

It would've been interesting to see the final product.  Would've probably been this :

I don't get it. Care to explain the videos?

I don't approve of Battle Kid being on the list... I think only games made during the NES lifespan should count. Bio-Force Ape is also iffy since its unreleased but thats better because at least it was made back in the day.

Well it does say in the opening description of the list that homebrews, prototypes, pirates, etc do count on the list. That said, if it was me I'd just include official titles. (Then again, I'm too lazy and indecisive to make a top 100 :P )

You think SM should only be allowed to like NES games that were released during the NES lifespan?
GRRR!

Wario's Woods PAL was released 1995 (after Japan had both PSX/Saturn already), yet no one would argue the NES lifespan to be "alive" in any meaningful sense by then.

I've set out to write a list of the best games for the system, period -i n my case, I don't care if it's licensed, unlicensed, unreleased prototype, pirate, homebrew or whatever else. This is a list of the best games for the hardware in whatever format they were released in. As such, this list is my viewpoint as of now. There may yet be future homebrew games that are so fantastic that they bump out games released during the system's official lifespan.

If you guys aren't happy with that, go check out IGN's top 100 list or write your own. I reject the notion that only offically released games during a system's original run should count towards the best games for system. I mean, look at the Dreamcast and the amazing homebrew games that have and continue to be made today, long after the systems death even in Japan.

Fantastic list! The format is perfect (even on the iPhone), love the additional fun facts, and it's a refreshing list. Love it.  Discovered a few new games I would have never known otherwise, too. Looking forward to the rest of list; since I've just jumped onboard the Famicom band wagon, your blog will without a doubt prove ESSENTIAL. Keep it up!

The game could've either been a fast platformer like Sonic, or a fighting game.

Or both. :-\  It's just seems weird like that, though. :o

Wooo! Busy me finally finished the next entry in my continuing look back at the top 100 NES and Famicom games of all time.

Here's part 7, #39-30

As always, feel free to leave your thoughts both in this thread and in the comments section of the post itself. Enjoy!

I find it hilarious that the developers of Guevara were worried about Americans possibly being unhappy about playing as Fidel Castro! We have such love for the man.  :fire:
