Wow! Those look fantastic!

.

Now maybe I am just stupid and am not realizing something here.  After finishing some cranberry wine and working my way through some Oolong Wine, maybe my judgment is clouded a bit. But the thing I don't understand...

Aren't these games all just reproductions or customs?  There is not way that a pirate outfit would create stuff that nice, and the Angry Birds game (I am assuming is like the one I am trying to track down) was not made in Japan, and I highly doubt it came boxed (could be wrong though).  Now this leads to the following question.  If these are just reproductions or customs, then what is the huge significance of this find?  I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but just trying to understand.  I mean, what is to stop somone else from recreating this stuff and making a few customs?  it has been done to hell and back with NES carts, boxes, and manuals, so what is stopping this from happening on the Famicom?  Just trying to understand is all.

Now I can only speak for myself and my experiences...

1. I think these things are cool. That's just my opinion. More so because I hate to use disks. Have had so many bad experiences with 5.25" floppies back in the day to hate floppies in general. On top of that, you can possibly acquire things that are translated hacks, never released in a region, etc etc.

Lastly, I've pretty much got all the officially released famicom games *that I want* complete boxed. Quirky stuff like this (disk only official, not released in japan, etc) is all that's left on my 8-bit famicom want list. It's kind of like my collecting on other platforms. Currently I'm working on my japanese NeoGeo AES game collection. I like to pick-up conversions of MVS only games.

2. You would think it would be relatively easy to make or have someone make you boxed, complete famicom customs, but it's not. I've approached and queried so many people who do full complete reproductions of NES, SNES, Genesis, etc customs over the years. All of them said they either don't do it or have the ability to do so. They'll make a repro cart only, that's about it. So until I can find someone (at least one!) that is willing to do these somewhat consistently, it's hard to get this kind of stuff.

However if you know someone that can do this type of work for japanese 8-bit famicom games.... please let me know! It's tough finding someone who can and is willing to do so.

5.25">>3.5"  ::)

Though I've had better experiences with 3.5" on my old PCs, Amiga, console backup units... still hate floppy disks in general.

Bad or dirty drive heads... failing or loud activity.... disks getting corrupted.... ehh. I just have disk games mainly for collection purposes. I wouldn't want to use them on a regular basis. But that's just me.

Cool, thanks for the information!  It gives me something to think about.

I don't personally know anyone to make famicom reproductions, but I honestly haven't looked very hard either.  Seeing that they are so rampant in the NES community, I was just sort of curious why people get excited over this sort of thing here, but I think I understand where you are coming from.  Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just trying to hear a reason and understand...and your response helped with that, thanks!

kinda offtopic but imho the optical disk sucks more than floppy (magnetic). I'm avoiding usage of any disk related things (game systems, players, etc.) 8)

nusilver

Have been slowly receiving some lovely things in the mail recently. Thanks, manuel, for Lickle!

Nightstar699

Wonderful choices, Nusilver. Ducktales 2 is an excellent game, I'd say it's as good as the original Ducktales.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...
