I really like the game, but I never played the Famicom version, supposedly it has extras, but if not it's still a great game, I'd definitely recommend it as an action game.
I get the impression you like some of these SD style games like SPC and Mighty Final Fight, Gourmet World and Banana Prince etc.  Funny enough, it fits right in with those, albeit it's a tad darker.

Read all about it:

Yes SD-style action games are my favorite type of game! The bosses in Metal Storm look pretty sweet... and the gravity mechanic seems cool, reminds me of Area E in Shatterhand. Someday I need to get Metal Storm, for one I absolutely adore Irem. (For Kaiketsu Yanchmaru, Daiku No Gen-San, Spartan X-2, etc.)

It hath arrived...

Big thanks to Manuel on this one.  Gonna read this at lunch and playthrough tonight!

Famicom art is leaps ahead of that NES art...

Taito is part of Square Enix, imagine if they still had the rights, I'd love a 16-bit sequel.

The final boss from Metal Storm (or the pre-final boss, I guess) is probably my favorite boss fight of all time.

I never did beat the expert mode, though.  I couldn't quite master the elevator/cage stage the second time around...

So that's it, the gauntlet has been thrown?  I accept your challenge.  I love hard (but fair) games.

Ah yes, are you referring to the bot that flies up and down, changes color and has a bunch of different forms of firepower? I saw a video of that boss and he looks tough, those lasers that fly straight, then fly downwards to track you remind me a lot of the final boss in Gun+Nac.

Nono, I mean the one with the three robots that you need to constantly jump/fall between.

Nightstar699

Oh right I saw that one too, very unique boss. Hopefully I'll be able to find a copy of this game someday.

Got a package from Manuel this morning. I'm so glad to finally get CIB copies of some more favorites of mine... plus there was a bonus.

NY Nyankies
Dragon Fighter
Saiyuuki World 2
Kage
Jigoku Gokurakumaru (Apparently this one was actually brand new so I guess today is its first day ever being opened)
Ganso!! Yanchamaru (For the Game Boy, and this one was a pleasant surprise! I've been wanting it for a long time. It is its own original game, but it is more similar to the original Kaiketsu Yanchamaru, rather than 2 or 3)

Thank you sir! NY Nyankies is one of my favorite games, for one the level layout/presentation of the game is really unique, how each stage is presented as a TV channel. Your hero is armed with a Punch Glove from the start, and there is quite a few ways to use it. You can use it for mobility, grappling onto objects and swinging around Bionic Commando style, jump and punch the ground to propel yourself in the air, or jump and punch the wall to fling yourself backwards. Utilizing these mobility techniques is essential to passing some of the later jumping puzzles, especially in the extra stage which is played AFTER the credits roll. You can knock enemies out with the glove, but you can also hold B to use it as a catching mitt, then you can catch various projectiles and objects, and throw them right back at 'em!

Besides the final stage and the extra stage, most the stages can be played in any order, Mega Man style. I find a lot of the platforming and bosses to be very interesting in these levels. There is also a couple extra options on the stage (or "channel") select screen. Mini-games where you can earn extra lives and money, as well as a shop where you can buy powerups including a mace (which is stronger than your punch glove, but it can't grapple onto ledges), bombs, and rocket boots to help you glide over jumps like the Princess in Super Mario USA! Very cool game overall, I'd recommend it.
