NES games that do NOT have passable Famicom donors or pirates

I'm just wondering if I were to ever get English Famicom repros made, or must settle for pirate versions, what games would be a problem. There could be a few NES games that used mappers never issued in Japan?

I think Camerica carts are the ones:

and some other weird companies. Maybe a couple of Tengen's.. And Action 52.

I think Wisdom Tree also:

..with that weird Color dreams mapper

Weren't most of the unlicensed (barring Tengen) games Sachen-dustributed for the FC & clones?

You could always make FC PCBs to support them, either by desoldering the original mapper ICs and using them on new PCBs, or by creating CPLDs as drop-in replacements; the Tengen mapper should be documented well-enough to do that. There is always a way! :bomb:

Xious, very interesting information. I was not aware that was a possibility. :)

As I said, a couple of them were not.

Anyway by desoldering the original mapper IC you make something different, and Lum was asking about a passable donor. Of course, you can also make your own PCB with original mapper on it and don't need any FC donor. geez

'Twasn't a critique, merely an expansionistic idea that has never been mentioned here'. Many people discount it as too difficult, but in reality, it is a very quick design to make and the wee production cost is a mere few dollars/euros per PCB.

The non-need for 10NES makes it even simpler and more affordable.

As to ColorDreams/WisdomTree, I think donor boards already exist that will support all their titles. Possibly Camerica as well, but I'm not certain. There is a third company that made original games (e.g -. 'Death Race'); or am I mixing Camerica with AVG/AVE (etc.). I'll check later.

Anyhow, I know that almost all unlicensed games were sold in China & Japan, so donors must exist for them. (In my own turn. I think Lum is thinking more of MMC5-and other mappers made for the NES officially, but not for the FC.) I don't recall any MMC6 FC games either, although as soon as we have an MMC3 DevCart, we'll also have MMC6 capabilities.

On another note: How far from CN-ROM are the Action-52 games? I can't see them needing more than that.

Upon restoring my router-repeater functionalty, with a working Internet connection (not my mobile), I find that the 'Camerica' games can most likely be used on UNROM PCBs and 'Color Dreams' on GNROM PCBs. The latter would require replacing (well, circumventing) the '161 with a '377, but that's none too difficult.

'Action 52' is apparently another can of worms but I think it could be reimplemented with any one of a selection of bankswitching mapper models. :bomb:

P.S. On the 3cm screen of my mobile, I read possible donors, not passable.

I'm pretty sure AGCI made Death Race, and I think their games use a different mapper to everyone else's. ;)

...that was a bad day...

Anyway Action52 games might be reproducable, no argue there. But as a whole, it's not reasonable.. too difficult.
What was that about MMC5 mapper? I have all MMC5 FC games in my collection and it's a nice bunch, so reproducing MMC5 games is not a problem, donors are available.

AGCI is not ASCI as I see it

although the "AGCI" signed chip is 74-377 as in Color dreams games

Sorry, yes, 'AGCI'. They worked with 'Color Dreams', selling them code IIRC, buying plastic shells from them, and using the same hardware.  :bomb:
