Famicom Datach joint ROM system

hi sir's i got this Datach joint ROM system and a game ( dragon ball z) but i dont have any cards with the bar codes to go with it . I have read few articles that bar codes from cartons and other stuff can sometimes produce characters.

Would just like to ask if anyone here had actually done and try printing out codes and then using it. If so, i hope you guys can hook me up with some links or something.

The manual states that you can only use 8 or 13 digit barcodes.  You want to swipe the cards with the barcode facing the front of the Famicom.  It comes with a few blank cards, and gives instructions for positioning barcodes correctly on the blanks.  I think the barcode needs to be printed on some kind of glossy material in order to be read by the scanner.  I tried printing a few barcodes from an inkjet printer, and I haven't gotten them to work yet (although I haven't done extensive testing).

I have to leave for work now, but I can post a scan of some of the cards later.

I have two Datach units, but only the pack-in Dragonball Z game.  The first one that I got has trouble reading the official cards, and won't read any other barcodes that I've tried to scan.  The second one works fine.  I'm telling you this because it's possible that even if you're doing everything else right, the hardware itself may be messed up.

Isn't all barcodes 13 digits? I think in the EU they are.

But you have to cut away the digits so it can scan properly.

Most in America are 12 digits.  The 13 digit codes are more of a internationalization thing, which is something America has never really cared about.

I didn't know that. 
Here in Japan all codes I checked have 13 digits.
The one on my cold medicine has 8 digits.

America seems to love to do things differently. See the metric system and weight units...
