I just got ahold of this game, it's fun. Got to the final boss last night, on like my 3rd try playing the game, so I guess it's not that hard.

Anyone else like it? Also, why does it have a larger cartridge? Why does some FC games have that? I know it can be for housing extra sound chips, but is it for other stuff too? For 1989, Splatterhouse has great graphics and animation... is there some sort of memory addon in the cart?

Glad you like it.

Namcot didn't make use of large PCBs even on their advanced mappers (NAMCOT-163).

Wanpaku uses NAMCOT-175 according to bootgod, and all NAMCOT-175 carts are larger type, but it seems the PCB would fit in a smaller cart.

I wonder if they kept it in a larger cart just to make people think it was worth more.  "This game's cart is bigger than that game's cart, so it must be better."

Probably for the same reason Zelda 1 & 2 were gold for the NES release. Wow factor.

Yes I think so too.

The games do have improved sound and perhaps graphics thanks to the custom mappers mentioned.

Its a decent game, but theres better. The only reason its in a different shell is for looks. Same reason why Taito, Jaleco, and Konami games have different style shells (sometimes).

Check out the review on the VGDen! The 2nd ending is quite cool and the extra segments are worth the trouble! :D
