Did people not care one bit for the boxes of NES, SNES, N64?

Cart only this, cart only that.

What the hell did the throw away the boxes for? It kept the games with protection and in their original packaging.

I only have one N64 boxed game and it's an F1 game, a GBC about sports (as new), seems as though it's becoming rare to find old games with their box.

To answer your question: no.  NES and SNES were both aimed at kids.  Kids generally don't care about the boxes their toys come in.  You start seeing games with boxes once publishers moved to using plastic cases rather than cardboard.

Did you keep the boxes to your action figures or RC car when you were a kid? Cartridges don't need boxes like Cd's do.

I didn't give a shit about the boxes of my cartridge games. In fact I still don't, I always go for cart only games nowadays.

Same here; I find that the boxes take up a lot of space in my room.

My mom threw away the box my SNES came in back then. I didn't care a bit. Video games! :gamer:

Personally I prefer buying and keeping japanese famicom and super famicom boxes in great condition.  Even megadrive....I just don't care as much about the american artwork as the japanese boxes usually look better.  But when I was a kid I couldn't have cared any less about the boxes

MS-DOS4

Well, I still kept all my gb/gbc/gba boxes, but all my super nintendo boxes have been thrown out.  :'(

I was a kid, & I always kept the boxes because the larger artwork was always so cool! Escpecially Cruis'n USA - man, the work that went into that! :o

But we didn't get new games until N64. And I remember being at a "friend's" house who had Super Mario 64. I saw the box in the waste bin & took it out, saying "Hey, if you're just going to throw this out, I'll take it." but he said "My house, my trash." & threw it back in. :(

10 years later I got the game, but it's only the cart... would've been nice.

Probably if I really liked the box too I'd keep it as I did with most stuff.

If he was going to throw away he could've given it to you. Doesn't seem like he was a decent friend.

I, if there's something I don't want game/cd/film/etc I'll just give it to my nephews (or whoever I think of) because they'll watch/play with it.

That's why I said "friend." He was a friend of my brother's. We were at his house. He wouldn't have figured out how to beat Ocarina of Time without us. ;D

Seriously, the ethics of garbage digging is a debate in itself. I heard both sides of the argument on a local radio talk show:

-people who dumpster dive are technically"stealing"
-owners are throwing away valuable items they could at least donate to Goodwill

The general consensus was that  people shouldn't be throwing away valuable junk, & if someone sees something they want left on the curb the decent thing to do is ask first

Heck I even buy game carts with messed up cases because the're cheaper just because the case has been abused but the game runs perfectly.

If I throw something out I wouldn't mind people taking it. On the contrary, if a "friend" could still use it it would be great in my opinion.

When I was a kid we moved around a fair bit so every time we moved the boxes of any toys that remained went stragiht into the trash, including those for video games.

When I started collecting for the Famicom I was strictly cart-only.  Recently though I have been won over by the CIB ones and have started collecting those too, at least when I find them for good deals.  The cardboard boxes for the Famicom just look too good not to want them!
