DC famicom emu

I just bought a dreamcast the other day so ive been reading up on stuff on the web.Apparently the DC is a great system for emulation..including nes/famicom.Does anyone else here have a DC that they use for this purpose.I ask because im wondering how hard this is to do.Ive seen the ...instructions ..at dreamcast-scene.com and it seems simple enough.I dont think ill be able to do this until i get a new comp though..my machine is old and the hd is always on the verge of full.

ya ive done it before, maybe 3 years ago. Meh...the frame rate is bad and the controls are kind of beat. Just buy a controller for your computer or better yet go to radio shack and get a PS2 to USB adapter and use your playstation controller to play emulated games on your comp. Theres a ton of great emulation programs out there for PCs.

Yeah, I used to play NES using a program I can't remember the name of it though...   Nester DC or something like that. It done pretty good. I didn't have too many framerate issues, though I do remember a few games being sped up. I also tried an SNES emulator with it, but it didn't fair too well. It was way too choppy. As long as you keep it under 8-bit, it should be ok, but like vealchop said, the PC is alot better, and if you don't like the PS2 controllers (like me), I've heard you can purchase a 360 controller, and it plugs right in to your PC, and the drivers are available on the XBox website. I haven't checked into it yet though.

I myself use a 360 controller for a PC gamepad and I couldn't be happier with it.

And yeah, most DC emulators are decent, but honestly they only seem to exist for the novelty of being able to play Contra 1 or something on a Dreamcast. PC emulators are far more efficent. Plus, you'd have to burn the emulators to a CD-R, and since those read differently than GD-ROMs, it'd kill the lens on your DC faster.

Hmm...ive heard that the nes emu had been updated and was working great now.*shrug* i think ill give it a try and see for myself.

I'm sure they've gotten better since '03, which was when I actually used one. I've been out of the Dreamcast loop ever since I got a PC, and nolonger needed the DC to surf the web. They might have squashed all of the bugs by now.

the NES emulators for PSP work great too. I use them to test out Famicom games to see if they are good enough to buy for the real thing.

I just picked up a PSP for 150$ and downgraded it to 1.50.  I'm using NesterJ for NES/Fami emulation; even the Disk System stuff works great!  I had to fiddle with it a while before i figured out how to get full screen full/speed with no tearing though.

yeah the nes emulator for psp is pretty awesome. The best famicom on the go you can find!

If the PSP would just be a bit cheaper.
That much only for emulation is a bit steep for me now...
Famicom and Super Famicom emulation would be cool, though. Maybe I'll get a PSP some time when it's cheaper.

To stay on topic, emulation on Dreamcast is nice, but I only tried it once and didn't feel the urge to play again. Nothing can beat the real thing I guess.

Gamecube NES/FC emu rox my sox
The Gamecube's GX video mode makes the NES games look exactly like in a real NES, and the frame rate is just excellent, no slowdowns whatsoever. The only thing that bugs me is that the sound is a little overdriven, and the tiny d-pad on the Gamecube controller.
